Here is a list of what I've had and liked (would buy again).

Romeo y Julieta Aniversario (Dominican/natural)
Gurkha Black Dragon (Dominican/maduro)
Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real (Dominican/natural)
La Flor Dominicana Ligro (Dominican/natural)
Don Tomas Clasico (Honduras/natural)

Should I continue to look for Dominican natural/maduro combinations or is that not a good way at finding cigars that would be similar?

thanks!

Try the Newbie Sampler trades.
A great way to expand your cigar horizons.

Chemyst

already done, should arrive this week. just wondering what I should be looking for instead of just trying random ones I come across.

Well, can you describe the type of flavors you are picking up in these cigars, or maybe something you enjoy in a cigar? And don't say "granola smoothie" either.

I see you like some LFDs, so check out their brand a bit more. If you like spicy or full bodied cigars, I can help you out tremendously because that's all I generally smoke! Seriously though, if you like those brands, try a few more singles from each of their lines, and DO NOT BUY A BOX just yet, as you are barely starting out in your smoking career. I bought a box 2 months into my smoking career, and I still have singles from it left and I regret dropping the coin on a cigar I don't even like anymore.

So, any help on the style of cigars you like would be a bit more helpful. ;)

well, there's a slight problem with describing the flavors of the cigars that I like. I can't taste or smell that well. I had my skull and nose shattered bout 13 years ago from a car accident (no worries, I look normal) and since then my smell and taste have been greatly reduced. I can still tell there are certain cigars that I like and some that I don't but it would be hard to describe. I have no plans to buy a box of anything yet until I find that brand that is my favorite. Most of the cigars I listed above are med/full but then I've had the Perdomo Lot 23 that while I didnt not like it, it was not as liked as the ones above. I think I've found that I prefer Dominican cigars, but I'm not sure if thats a good way to look for others that I might enjoy.

Maybe for you its more about the length of the smoke (time) than anything else? Do you like a petite corona or a churchill? Maybe that would help narrow it down a bit?

Typically I just try about everything, and usually at least twice, to see if its to my liking. Since theres so much out there, I could be doing this forever lol. Theres a few out there now that I would love to have a box of, but finding them and money are my constraints, so it will happen when/if it happens.

I did however, buy a box the other day of something I've never tried but read about. Since the box I bought was so inexpensive...I didn't mind it. It could be a dog, or just a simple everyday type of smoke (nothing special but nothing I hate)..but I've paid as much for a single in the past so I'll take my chances lol. I would be hard pressed to pay a couple hundred dollars for a box of something I've never tried before...what if I hate it? Money down the drain.

I prefer the Robustos or Toros depending on how much time I have. I like the 50+ ring and those sizes are nice for the length of time that I like to smoke for.

Had a CAO Cameroon Robusto tonight and really enjoyed it. (Nicaragua/Natural) medium

You can't go wrong with anything from Arturo Fuente. Go with Hemingway classic, Don Carlos, any sungrown. All great stuff.

Maybe try an AF Chateau Fuente Maduro or Natural...I think they have a sungrown too. It is a 4 1/2 X 50 size. Try one of each, or two of each for that matter, and maybe pick up a box of whichever you prefer the most. They are pretty inexpensive for a box or singles, so this way if your tastes change down the road, you didn't spend a huge amount on these. If you smoke with friends then you always have something to hand out if they really aren't into it but want to try...and you won't be giving them a dog nor will it be a $30 stick they won't enjoy...

X100 on the Hemingway maduros. Get your hands on an aged WOAM. It will change your life.
As souldog stated explore more of the LFD line.
Oliva Series V Maduro. Pretty strong ones, full stomach advised.

I see you have been smoking the Romeo Reserva Real.
I used to go through those like crazy. I was in a B&M the other day and saw them in Maduro. I didn't know they existed in maduro.

Edit spelling

All the advice above is very good. In addition to trying a brand and then several cigars from that brand, you can also do this with the various countries and see how they compare. Try some of the thousand series from Padron and Tatuaje and Anything from Pepin. Is what I have found so enjoyable about cigar smoking. Each shape, brand, type of tobacco makes the cigar different.
