"Punk Rock Girl?" I guess that was their hit in the MTV sense. Definitely got the most airplay for them. But in my time, by far their biggest hit and what got the most play (on stations like KSJS and KFJC, and even Live 105 to a degree back when Live 105 was decent), was "Bitchin' Camaro."

And, "Everyday Sunshine?" Wow brother. You got to dig back into Fishbone's past deeper than that man. They are so much better than that. Their cover of "Freddy's Dead," "Hey Ma and Pa," "Got me Bonin'," "Ugly," and what got it all started back in the day, "Party at Ground Zero." But again, I guess if you're speaking of a MTV rotation kind of thing, "Everyday Sunshine" fits the bill. Fishbone is/was just definitely not a "one hit wonder" band in my opinion.

Speaking of Fishbone...anyone else remember "Freak in the Street" by The Untouchables? Or how about "Agent Double O Soul," and "I Spy" by them as well. Damn, talk about underrated.

I gotta give you credit for Babe Ruth. Loved that group although I only saw them twice. They did a killer version of Zappa's "King Kong" The Mexican was the flip of Wells Fargo.

Procol Harum also charted with "Shine On Brightly" reaching #24. As for Slade, they were huge in the UK with over 30 charted singles there but only "My Oh My" making it to #37 here. Some of their UK hits are

Wells Fargo by Babe Ruth
Cum on Feel The Noise by Slade (long before Quiet Riot)
Whiter Shade of Pale by Prochol Harem

I don't remmber My Oh My, could be some of the FM stations in town here only played certain songs by a group. I must say, Slade was the LOUDEST group I have ever seen live. I saw Slade in a small theater (about 500-700 seat) with Brownsville Station (another one hit wonder with Smokin In The Boys Room), Slade was so loud I had to leave.

Another...
She Drives Me Crazy... Fine Young Cannibals

I always have to cringe a little when people mention this by the FYC. I guess this LP/CD really propelled them with this song and their other #1 hit from this LP/CD, "Good Thing." But, damn...they were so much better than that too. They had a full length before this that a fraction of the "She Drives Me Crazy" crowd knew about, that was a million times better. Fewer still were aware that they used to be a part of The (English) Beat just as General Public of "Tenderness" fame was.

Plus their first LP (just called FYC if I remember correctly), had songs that got CONSTANT play (at least back in California - both in SF and in LA anyway) like, "Johnny Come Home," "Blue," and an incredible cover of "Suspicious Minds." Damn, I loved (and still love) those songs.

If you ever feel like checking it out, you should look for that cd and give it a listen. It's truly well worth it. Assuming you like the whole Roland Gift (lead singer) vocal style in the first place.

Maui Wowie in a brass pipe, sitting in the back of my pick up while watching a movie at the drive-in. That's the most memorable and favorite one-hit wonder I ever had. It was what followed it though that makes me remember it quite fondly. :whistling:

American Pie
Artist: Don McLean
Albums: American Pie (1971)
Composers: Don McLean
Lyricist: Don McLean

A long long time ago
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while

But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died

So bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing: This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so
Do you believe in rock 'n' roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow

Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues

I was a lonely teenage broncing buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died

I started singing:
Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing: This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Now for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me

Oh, and while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned

And while Lennon read a book of Marx
The quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died

We were singing:
Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing: This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Helter-skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast

Now the half time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance

'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died

We started singing:
Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing: This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Oh, and there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devil's only friend

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in hell
Could break that Satan's spell

And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died

He was singing:
Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing: This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play

And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken

And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died

And they were singing:
Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing: This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

They were singing:
Bye bye, Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee
But the levee was dry
Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singing: This'll be the day that I die

I was trying to think of an actual "hit"
Fishbone to this day is one of my favourite bands...although party at ground zero was a pretty big hit too I guess. My favourite Fishbone song is was and will be "lyin' ass bitch!"

and as far as the Dead Milkmen go...I was always more of a "the thing only eats hippies" fan

American Pie wasn't his only hit...

Vincent by Don McLean

Album: American Pie
Date: 1972
U.S. Chart: 12
U.K. Chart: 1
From: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1950

Vincent:
Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflecting Vincent's eyes of China blue
Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hands

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as
beautiful as you

Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget
Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
A silver thorn on a bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
How you suffered for your sanity
How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will

I need to have my cd's in front of me, unfortunately I'm at work. Off the top of my head:

"Cult of Personality" by Living Colour (not a true one hit wonder, but close)

"Pretend We're Dead" by L7
