Jesus of Cool, I'm bad, I'm nationwide
The first female bugler in the United States Army, Donna-Mae Smith, passed away recently at the age of 90. Mrs. Smith played trumpet in high school in St. Paul Park, Minn. In 1942, she started playing trumpet in the band at the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. She eventually ended up marrying Cpl. Robert Burr, who used to wake her up every morning so she could play reveille for the fort. She served as adjutant for two years and commander for four years of the Baird-Heaton American Legion Post 152.
