So according to them and a direct quote. "Tobacco use causes 440,000 deaths every year in the United States, and secondhand smoke claims another 50,000 lives every year," it said.

There has been 14,960,00 deaths due to smoking in my lifetime and an additional 1,700,000 deaths to second hand smoke for a grand total of 16,600,000 deaths in 34 years.
