Anybody noticing a change in the contruction quality from Fuente?

The last few cigars I've smoked have had serious burn and flavour issues.

Namely a Chateau Fuente and two Montesino Robustos. Super uneven burning, frequent relights, tunnelling and the flavours have been very bland and one dimensional.

This is really weird because in the past I've always found their quality exceptional.

Are they making too many cigars and sacrificing their high reputation for quality?

I've been fairly happy with everything Fuente has put out recently, though, I typically only smoke the Sun Grown, the Hemmingways and the Opuses. Although, to be fair, the most recent Diamond Crown Maxximus I had was not so great, and that too is a Fuente product. It was probably just a bad batch or something.

I have had no problems with the Fuente prodects I have had lately. Is it maybe a storage issue? What humidity do you have in the humidor?

60-65% RH, 58-65F

and everything sits for alteast 6 months in the humi before smoking.

I know some people will disagree with me, but I find my cigars burn much better at 65-70% RH than 60-65%. 60% is just rather low, especially for the Fuentes, which tend to have a thin wrapper. Someone else on this board pointed out that thinner wrapper cigars do better at 70%, and I think that's definitely true, though I have no idea why.

Taste and burn qualities don not always go hand in hand. In general, thin wrappers do burn better and taste better at %70. The trade off is this, it takes a long time to get to a good smoking point at %70. At %65, 6 months seem to be a minimum. Of the 3 boxes of Fuentes I bought last year, 6 months seemed to the point where I thought they were acceptable. 10 months on the Chateaus SG to start to shine.
I suggest this, when you buy your box, take off the plastic, and let them sit out in the open air for 3-4 days before putting them in the cooler. You'll find they will be smokeable sooner.
