I run my business out of my truck, invoicing with a laptop and printer. But I tend to beat the hell out of any connectors like USB and AC adaptors. I would like to run my software on a handheld and be more portable and compact. I run a service business with multiple stops per day and use Quickbooks for invoicing, statements, and checkbook. I am hoping there is software that would import the data and communicate with a printer. Any suggestions?

Blue Tooth or WLAN connection with either a WLAN/Blue-tooth printer or a router with a printer port.

http://www.quickbooksenterprise.com/featur...Integration.php is a PDA enabled version of Quickbooks.

You would have to contact them and talk to them about the software, but its very doable.

Quickbooks Enterprise starts @ $3k.

Tell us a little bit more about your service based business, that info would help in recommending an app that suits your needs.

What type of laptop/printer do you have now?

I'm assuming you want to carry the PDA around during the service call. Enter the information into your PDA and then print out an Invoice at your truck?

I know that the E version is so expensive Harv, thats why I said he should call :)

Hey Tony! You guys do hardware upgrades too? I'd like to put some more memory in my Dell X50V

My company, a one man operation,:) is a service for car dealers, body shops, and detail centers in North Jersey. No retail work. Only doing it for thirty years but getting the hang of it. It doesn't require too much in the way of software. I don't do estimates with it, really only do invoicing, statements, track receivables, and input the checkbook at the end of the year for tax purposes.

I have a Zaurus handheld but never used it yet. I dread learning curves. With software, anyway. ;) Other curves not so much.

Oh, also....I am a cheap basige.

LOL less money spent on software and hardware more money for cigars, I'm the same way!

Well does your handheld have WLAN or Bluetooth?

Ok here is my 2 cents, (based upon inflation and the price of oil; it may be worth less than 2 cents).

Check out Service Trakker from MobiTech Systems.
You can use it on a Palm OS device, which you can pick up pretty cheap.

Its $199 and while the screenshots aren't all preaty and stuff it gets the job done. And if you already have a Palm OS device you can download the trial and try it out.

Any invoices, customers, jobs, etc that you create on the device get synced with Quickbooks when you do your hot sync.

So all you would need is your Palm OS device, this software and a printer that supports IR and you would be good to go.

It supports direct DirectPrint to IR printers and to Slip Printers, check out this PDF for more info.

Nice find Harv!

I was at the Zaurus website but could not find out what OS its running.

Is it Palm OS or Windows?

By looking at the quick start PDF it looks like a mixture of both.

*edit* left out "not" behind the could

I don't think Sharp wanted to pay the fee's to use Palm's OS so its neither to my knowledge. I'll try to do some searching and see what I can come up with.
