Hey Gang-

I figured I would draw from the well of Military knowledge here.

I have a good friend who is coming home from her OSUT at Ft. Leonard Wood this coming week. I was wondering if there was some sort of traditional gift that is given, if any, to those who have just completed their training, or if it is even appropriate to do so. Her MOS is 31B: MP. Thanks, guys!

I'm not sure if its appropriate or not but I think it would be a nice gesture. In my opinion if shes an MP even something like a nice knife or something that she could hold on to and actually use would be nice. You can get a Benchmade knife that will last forever, have sentimental value, and its practical. I say Benchmade but there are other similiar knives with the same quality.

I would also add to make sure that it is something she would be able to wear in uniform, if possible (if that is what you have in mind with the gift). A knife, multi-tool, flashlight or even a classy engraved pen set would be nice (I'm sure she'll be writing a lot of reports).

After having spent only three weeks at Lostinthewoods when I took the MSF instructor's course held there, my personal suggestion would be alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol after that place... ;)

Thanks for weighing in, guys. I definitely wanted to stay within Army regulation, something useful as well. I was thinking that if I got a nice multi-tool or knife, perhaps getting it engraved with her graduation date might be a nice touch. I'll have to give it some more thought and see what I can come up with.

Kann, there will definitely be some alcohol enjoyed when she gets home! Haha, I've heard stories of Lostinthewoods and I'm sure she has quite a few to add!

Thanks guys, and if anyone else has other suggestions too, I'm still open.

Kershaw makes some very nice knives and you can get kind of personal with fishing & hunting and such. I have a Scallion with a Rainbow on it.
