God Bless Texas

If I was unable to live in Tennessee I would want to live in Texas. God Bless and Gods Speed to all of my Texas brothers.

If all goes well I'm going to Houston on Monday on business.

The storm is down from a cat 5 to a cat 3 and seems to be turning North towards the TX/LA border so it looks like we're going to get off pretty lightly compared to what a lot of people were expecting.

The wind outside is gusting but there's no rain yet. Landfall will be somewhere between midnight and 3am. I hope everyone's keeping their heads down.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. The majority of my family is still in Houston. Luckily they aren't in flood prone areas (which is the major concern). Here in SA, we're not expected to even get a drop of rain from this thing.

Yea, the wind is picking up by the hour here in Deer Park. We're getting a little rain at the moment. Kinda wierd... sat in a protected area of our back porch with the wife and dogs and fired up a 97 SLR lonsdale watching the sunset cast a beautiful glow on the racing clouds with the winds whipping the trees around. Really beautiful all things considered. Of course it could have just been the cigar putting me in my happy place. Great smoke! Normally that smoke would have been accompanied by some Pampero, Pyrat, or Ron Z but felt I better not get to comfortable with Rita just down the road.

Nicholas, you still in town?

Yes. We were going to head to San Antonio to stay with friends but the state of the freeways yesterday persudaded us to stay.

That really was some sunset wasn't it? I would have enjoyed a cigar but with my wife, my daughter, her mother and grandmother around that probably wouldn't have flown.

Seriously guys, if needed my home is your home. I hope it doesn't come to that but if so you are welcome anytime.

As it turns out it was prob for the best that you didn't head west. Between reports I got from other on the road and watching where the storm was actually going there was no way I was going to get on the road. If you think the exit getting out was crazy just wait until they all try to come back.

All things considered the evacuation was very successful, I mean 2-3 million people is a hell of a lot of people to move in 48-72 hours. We'll hear the worse stories on the news but putting it into perspective they did a pretty good job. Again the trick is going to be getting everyone back. Its a bit easier to take people in a small area and move them in every direction outward to larger areas but takeing a bunch of people and having them return from a large area to a small area is going to be quite a site. This may be where we see the worse in people.

Well I'm off to go check my sons house and make sure they didn't get any windows blown out. We got some pretty howing winds last night, prob gusting up to hurricane strenth, but for the most part no major damage for me. I can see a few roof shingles that look to be laying in the wrong direction. Won't be able to get a closer look at that until the winds are totally gone which should be in the next few hours.

I do pray for everyone east of us here. Yall are going to see a lot of snapped pine tree's from this area.

My wife and I have quite a number of relatives in the Houston area. Thank God that they came through the storm without much damage, but they all have no electricity and probably won't get any for a few days.

We got off really lightly. Some strong winds last night, not much rain, and no real damage. Most businesses were closed today but the hamburger joint on the corner was open for business and they had lines out of the door.

Our power went out briefly, it might go out again; that would be a pain. The weather right now is hot and humid and I don't want to think about life without a/c or refrigeration... otherwise, no issues here. Like I said, we got off lightly! I wonder how folks around Port Arthur and Japer are doing.
