I want to go down to TJ and my girlfriend told me that I now need a passport to go there. I never heard it from anywhere else but she works in the legal profession so I still don't know. Do any of you know for sure about this?

I just went to Mexico (2 weeks ago) and did not need one, but they are about to start requiring passports. As of Dec 31 of this year, you will need one to go to or from all of the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. The Mexico and Canada follow sometime after that.

I think you are fine without one until the end of the year.

You can get a certified copy of your birth certificate quickly and inexpensively. For now, that seems to work fine for both Mexico and Canada, though that will probably change sooner than later.

Regards - B.B.S.

a drivers license and a birth certificate work for now, but as stated, the end of the year this will all change. you will be required to have a passport as of 2006 to travel anywhere outside the U.S. Going rate for a passport is about 100 bucks and is valid for 10 years. if you go to the state dept's website, you can d/l the forms.

Good Point. It has to be a certified copy from the state. They can tell by the raised seal.

What's happening in TJ?

I grew up in San Diego and have visited many times. You do not need one but make sure you have a couple of forms of ID with you. I always suggest a nice day trip... at night it can get a little rough.
