My club is having a 3 club tournament this weekend. Teams are comprised of 3 players. Each player is only allowed 3 clubs (no sharing) - Our par 3's average 170 yds. Here is what I am thinking of using - Taylor Made # 3 Rescue - 6 iron - 9 iron - I would use the rescue club for putting - Anybody have strong opinions on this?

Weather forecast is for 45* and cloudy - perfect for mid Nov. There should be around 15 teams -

3 rescue
6 iron
and a wedge you're comfy with....you'll have enough chips to fill your day!!

It's just 3 clubs? Our club tourney is 3 clubs and a putter!

Good luck!

I'd go with the rescue, 7 iron and a PW. Good luck!

I like the #3 rescue and the 6 iron, but I'd take a SW instead of a 9. Plus if you've ever tried to bellie your wedge out of heavy greenside rough, you know you can putt with that too, if you use the leading edge right at the equator of the ball.

Exactly what I'd go with. With the average being 170 yards, with the 7 iron you can at least get within 20-40 yards at the worst and chip in from there.

The most strokes are taken around and on the green. Personally I would use whatever utility wedge (PW,SW,52,54,56 or lob) that can be used in greenside bunkers (assuming your course has those) and from inside 100 yards. It is hard tell other than that because it depends on what distance you get from each club. Other than using the utility wood to double as a putter, I would rather have more irons than woods, but that is really where it makes a difference in the normal yardage you get from each club. Personally I would open the wedge of choice and putt with that since the shaft is shorter.

I would take my 3-wood 7-iron and a putter. Alot of your shots will be on the green and I would rather have a putter because I know I will do decent with it.

3-wood will handle all the long shots like par 4's and 5's. and the 7 will do everything in between for me.

id go rescue, 5 iron and wedge.

if youre good enough you can "punch" a 5 iron anywhere from 180 yards down to 100 yards. the wedge is a must. you wont hit hardly any greens in regulation.

yee of little faith -

I hear you on 5 iron, after reading the various post, I may have to switch the 9 iron for the gap or pitching wedge. Now the big question, what do I smoke? :whistling:

I thought you'd never ask. I would go with a Padron 1926 N0. 1 Maduro, followed by a Opus X A. For the 19th hole I would opt for an SLR A or a Bolivar Royal Corona.

3 Wood, 7 Iron and a putter..... I'm not missing a fairway or a green, so I should be o.k. :)

Tony - Best advice yet

I figure your going to be putting 2 or 3 times a hole. I would bring a putter, PW, and a 6 iron. I can't play golf very well so you might want to take that with a grain of salt!

Now that's a round I want to play!!!

We have to set up a golf outing when the good weather returns!

What are the rules for the teams? Play your own ball, alternating shot, best ball? That would make a difference on my club selection.

Play your own ball - most holes best 2 of 3 - all the par 3's and 2 par 5's are all 3 balls -

By the way, where in South Jersey - We vacation in Stone Harbor every summer. Maybe this year we could hang at Fred's and smoke a nice cigar.
