Good Digital Hygrometers?

FTR, I bought three of Radio Shack's $19 hygros and HumidiPak-tested them. They were all three right on the 69 mark. The hardest part was to decide which one to keep :laugh:

I looked at the link but did not notice if it mentioned if the new style will work with the existing remote sensors or vice versa. Does anyone know?
 
I'm guessing that comes with one base unit and one remote sensor?

And a $10 price drop isn't really a clearance sale.
 
I picked up a couple of the Radio Shack ones when they were on sale and I am very happy with them.

IMO, the difference between 65 and 70% Rh for cigar storage isn't going to be a dealbreaker. I'd use beads or PG anyway, so that the hygro is just backup for if and when the RH really gets out of whack.

Last year it started at $10 off and the individual stores marked them down from there so keep an eye locally as it is just starting. Then again they may just be on sale for $10 off but the manager didn't think so.

Yes they are compatable with older models.

I am glad someone else shares my opinions on this. I have a nagging suspiscion that the digital hygrometers are not accurate throughout the RH range. IE off by 2% @ 75F, off by 5% at 65F, etc. That being said, I still pop the champagne when my humi's are at 65%(per the digital hygro) for more than 3 days... :rolleyes:

Hi guys - first post.

I got a couple of the small digi hygrometers from this same guy. He called me up to tell me one of the items I'd ordered was out of stock and offered to let me substitute a different color. We ended up chatting for a few, and he told me that they QC every hygrometer in a chamber with a reference hygrometer to ensure it meets specs. I got my products quickly and he seemed like a decent guy to do business with.

Not sure but when they look up the sensor at the store they look at the Reciever/remote package which list the individual part numbers in the description. Take that number then search for it online.
 
Found a good responsive one. AccuRite from your local WallyWorld. 14.88 each. It is really a house indoor/outdoor temp and RH(indoor only). Works well so far. Don't know what to do with the outdoor temp sensor, yet.
 
I've had mixed results with the Radio Shack digital models. I recommend the standard Thermo-Hygrometer from Oregon Scientific. It has an atomic clock and 3 wireless, remote sensors for temp/humidity. Pretty sweet setup:

they sell for about $30 at your local Target - only comes with one sensor though.
 
The remote unit from radio shack is on sale now if you can find it. The new model is coming out soon.
 
I use the Radio Shack wireless with three remote units. Salt calibration was dead on. I rotate the units through the various humidors. I don't get into some of them that often so it helps just to push a button and see how it is doing. The unit has three channels so you can run three remote sensors at one time.

I've got this set-up for my coolidor, which is about one week from being up-and-running.
thing is, when I was in radio shack purchasing the set, I was told that the separate remote units were a discontinued item. not sure if that's true, but for those who might want them, look into it, and grab 'em while you can.
 
They discontinue them every year at this time. The new model has been the exact same design for years. Probably only a lot change.

Someone can ask Sam since he is a store manager for a radio Shack now.
 
One Western Caliber III over here and it's been working like a charm. I hope that it does not crap out! :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:
