Hey everyone. Here is my story...

The wife and I were gone most of the weekend. Here in MN we got a huge snow storm, received about 16" I pulled up to our house yesterday morning and thought where the heck is our other car? Turns out they towed it because of the plowing. I made the wife park in front of the house because she has a slow oil leak and didn't want it up on the driveway. Anyways, no note was left or anything, I called around and found out the company who towed it. The total for getting the car out...$200! I was giving the towing slip and some other papers. I asked the towing clerk "what is this", she replied, "that is your ticket issued by the city." All in all I owe $350!!! We just bought the house last March and don't have extra money. End of story, I sold all my cigars, wine cooler humidor, etc yesterday to pay for it. Don't worry, the wife didn't make me, I did it myself. Hopefully in a couple years I can get it started again...

I guess you'll get that oil leak fixed next time :whistling:
 
Thing is I tried. I am pretty good at that stuff and I couldn't find where is was coming from. It is a 96 Kia Sportage. I even took it in last summer. He couldn't really tell where it was coming from either. Ended up replacing the valve cover gasket, oil cap, did some other maintenance stuff and she still leaks. The valve cover was leaking but I guess it is somewhere else too.
 
Oh, bummer dude. Everything happens for a reason, we may not know what those reasons are now, but you'll look back someday on this and see why it went the way it did.
 
That's a bummer.

I've had card board under some cars at times..just to absorb the leaks.

Can you see the leak or do you know where it is coming from? Most common places for oil leaks to occur from are: front main seal, rear main seal, oil pan, and oil filter adapter (if you have one). Some fixes are easy some are tough.
 
That garage mat is intruguing but because of the price I will stick with cardboard for now.

I cannot tell where the leak is coming from, I almost wonder if it is brake fluid. It seems like every time I check the master cylinder is low. I crawled under there last year many times when it was nicer out, never could tell though. I even tried degreasing the engine but still couldn't find the origination. Mechanic said lets start with the valve cover, I cannot afford to bring it back in though.
 
4 oily type of fluids in a normal car. Oil, Brake fluid, Power Steering Fluid and Transmission Fluid. Tranny fluid is usually red so that is easy to rule out. Brake Fluid starts out clear and doesn't normally get too dirty and so should be easy enough to tell if that leaks. Power steering fluid is a lighter color and much thinner then oil plus there are only a few connections so once you clean them you can see where or if it is leaking. If you are certain it is oil then I'll bet on a pan or head gasket.
 
That would suck if its the head. I dont think it is the pan because I remember seeing it more on the block. I will look again once it gets a little nicer. It has been leaking for over a year now. The car has 110K on it. I know its not tranny, I don't have to add too much oil, that is why I am not sure if it is that. Brake fluid is the only thing that I have to keep adding but it appears on the other side of the block (if I remember correctly).
