Got an interview on Tuesday

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Busy trying to find my nice clothes and getting a haircut today. Don't want to go to Seattle looking like a bum. :)

Well I went ahead and applied for supervisor of our dept.

Going to Seattle on Tuesday for an interview with the Dept. Manager and the human resources folks.

I give myself a 30-40% chance of getting the spot.

Been so long since I interviewed for a job. Hard to remember what to expect.

Wish me luck!

Hey bro,

Good luck!

I'm sure you've heard a million tips, so here's a million and a few more:

1: look em in the eye, and give a good handshake, also dress well.
2: expect to answer questions like: What are your best qualities? (Go for stuff that's NOT generic (like 'a motivated self starter with people skills')
What are your worst traits? I've always liked 'I tend to be too meticulous, and get a little too intensely involved with a project.' (or something similar

You may also want to google 'good interview questions' and such for tips!

Cheers,
Rob

What a long day. Flew to Seattle, had amy interview and then came home.

On the plus side the interview went well. I was able to get across all that I wanted to and they were able to answer some of my questions. I should hear next week if I made it to the second round of interviews.

My friend, who also applied, did get a call yesterday and they want to do a phone interview with him rather than fly him down to Seattle. Wonder if this is a good or bad sign?

I will update you guys when I know more.

I would take that as a bad sign. They're going through the motions to satisfy HR requirements.

bad for your friend, good for you!

Mike, as a former HR manager, I would say the search by you company is comming to a close. The time and money spent by your HR dept is a significant investment in filling a position. I don't know if there were any others interviewing in Seattle, but it sounds like they may have found their man or woman. You should be hearing something soon, so BE PREPARED for the conversations that may follow. Read up on negotiation, both direct and indirect. Do not sell yourself short and know you are the best person for the position.

Well I got the call late this afternoon.

I did not get the spot. Came in a close second, but not top dog this time around. They will announce who got the post tomorrow. I think I know who got it and it was a good choice. Will try again next time something opens up.

Mike,

Sorry to hear you did not get the position. I'm sure tomorrow you will hear a million and one cliche on the boards to pep you up so keep in mind that it could be that the timing is just not right and there may be something else further on the horizon.

Lite a good somke and just enjoy.

Charlie

I'm in the same boat, Mike, except I had 4 interviews for the same type of position. 3 of the four were posted to satisfy HR requirements, but candidates were already tee'd up. The fourth got retracted and filled my internal movement. However, I interviewed strongly on two of those (that I'm aware of). Next opening should come soon, and I'll be sitting on the tee this time. So will you be!
