Got my letter today

I believe congress is proposing to give each person affected $1000. Probably won't go through. I haven't heard anything on myself yet...this blowz.

$1000 is nothing. I would not accept it. It could be perceived as a settlement.

You stand to loose much more if your info is used by someone. I'd sue the crap out of them if I was a vet and my info was used.

Yeah I'm not who I say I am, but talk to myself and don't get answers

Well I got the letter from the VA saying my data was on the computer and hard drive that is missing! I wonder who has the computer and do they realize what they have? Only time will tell.

That's a real bummer, Anthony. I hope there are measures you can take to thwart any unauthorized activity.

Well the Mrs. and I received our letters today.

This could haunt us all for a while, no telling when or if they will use the stolen data.

Yep, as high-n-tight said, all us active guys got the letter from the Chief of Staff today and we talked about this in our daily meeting.

Not much we all can do but keep a close eye out.

I sure hope everyone here remains untouched. Well, all the VA folks that is.

Edited for double post reasons.

Got my letter today too and being the commie liberal pinko that I am, I'm gonna blame george 'cause it makes me feel better and he has ultimate responsibility.

I've got double trouble: I've got letters now from the VA AND from Hotels.com (Actually, Ernst & Young on behalf of hotels.com).

I'm screwed. I think I'm just going to go ahead and post all my credit card info and SSN here on CigarPass, just to get it over with.

This is very troubling to me. Especailly for all of you who have served our country and now the information is in the possession of some unknown person(s).

Do you now have to redo all of your financial stuff? That is not easily done.

You know, I was just thinking. I have an old friend who was a WWII German fighter pilot. He's now an American citizen. Every month he still gets a check from Germany for his service. This BS is what we get. YGTBSM.

Doc.

Somebody posted in another thread that the VA is spinning it that whomever stole the laptop erased the data. Now having been in the military for a long time, I believe that like there is a tooth fairy!(TB doesn't count) ;)

Yep, was thinking that maybe I had dodged this bullet but it was not to be. Got my letter today...

My wife and I got ours today.   Well, hopefully, we'll get some money out of it. Our bank is USAA. They are really good against fraud and what-not.

Yep, USAA is very helpful and really goes the extra mile for service members. I'm sure they already have some things in place to keep an eye out at their level.

Plus if something happens you know they'll work closely with you and give you the benefit of the doubt.

USAA is good people IMO.

UNBELIEVABLE, i got out in '69' and just got the letter yesterday along with my son. how long do they do they hold on to all this info? WTF!

Latest news on the Veterans Administration screw-up. Looks like they are attempting to purchase identiy theft insurance??

My guess, nothing happens...

I got my letter last week, not from the VA but from the IRS. Apparently the VA doesn't know how to find me so they asked the IRS to tell me that my information MAY have been stolen.
