We laid to rest our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather yesterday. He was my grandfather; my mother’s father. He was the greatest man I knew. I looked up to him since I was young. He was my mentor growing up. He taught me work ethic, patience, humor, and how to show respect. He was always calm in all situations and I looked up to that. What was amazing was to meet all his friends and colleagues that he also mentored. It seemed he taught a lot of people in a lot of different ways and they all left lasting impressions. He started in a mail room of a company and worked his way to president of a very large and succesful contractor business. Simply amazing. He was the first grandparent I have lost, so that made it even harder. I am staying home a few more days to take care of family and just enjoy them.

For those of you still with grandparents, call them today and say hi.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like he was a great man.

Hope you enjoy the next few days with your family, even under the circumstances.

Young folks just don't get it until it's too late. I tell my kids and grandkids all the time, when they don't think they have the time to come visit, "How much longer do think I have?", but it doesn't sink in.

Sound like he was and always will be a huge part of your life! Sorry for your loss! I Lost all my grandparents when I was real young. My "Nana, Papa, and Grandfather" I was just a baby and have no real memorys of them. My Grandmother past when I was in High School. Doc is right you young guys like me don't relize what you have till its gone! It is very hard dealing with such a loss. Hold your head up. His memories will live on forever in the lessons he taught you!

Use your lesson wisely. Build that same love relationship with your children and then your grandchildren. It is a relationship that will last for generations!

I am very sorry for your loss and I pray that he will he rest in peace. He will live on through the lessons he taught you and I hope you continue to apply them for the rest of your life.

Appreciation for Grandparents is something that usually comes natural to children. Sounds like you are a good example of this.

Now, if only they would appreciate their "parents".

Sorry for your loss.

The legacy people leave behind is what truly matters, as this is how they are remembered.

It seems as though your grandfather ensured his presence and memories will be around for your lifetime, as well as other lives he had touched.

The other members are right about appreciating special people in your life. Let them know how you feel now, for you never know when a life will be taken.

My condolences on the lost of your grandfather, Ben. Good to hear you're taking time off from a hectic schedule to be with family, that's always priceless.

Sorry for your loss brother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. Stay positive...

I had both my grandparents (Bayamos' parents) pass just under 2 yrs. ago. Actually, they had both passed within 6 months of each other. I was with my grandma when she past, was holding her hand when it happened. I will never forget that feeling (literally) of someone leaving this earth. I visited my grandpa when I could while he was ill in the hospital. Even brought him in my iPod with some speakers so we could sign some Johnny Cash together. He was a great man. I would agree that some kids do not spend enough time with their grandparents. I was fortunate to see them regularly and will cherish those moments forever. I do not have kids yet, but I am certain, they will spend plenty of time with their grandparents - I will make sure of it.

Take care of yourself, and wish you the best....

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I was never close with any of my grandparents, but I still miss my father (bit bummed as today is his birthday).

Peace be with you and your family,

Ken

Thanks everyone, that means alot.

I do not have kids yet, but will try my hardest to pass on that love and respect for family and raise them to cheerish those family moments. And if that doesn't work, waving the gun around should do the trick :)
