Gun Ban over

Ok, I don't want to start a flame war, but...

Why is it a sad error? And I wont accept 'its my right!!' as an answer. They didn't take away the right to bare arms. They took away the right for average people to buy high speed killing machines. Do you hunt with an AK47? Do you need one to protect your family? Do you use it for trap shooting? Why on earth would any regular person need an assault weapon? Just look at the name. ASSAULT weapon. Are you going to be assaulting something?

Just my $.02.

Hey Other, if you wont accept " It's my right",....... then as good ol'e 898 might put it, "you dont get it! " ;)

If they want to make some progress on "assault weapons", why dont they start by taking away Ted Kennedy's Car It has taken more lives than any of my "assault weapons"!

My .02, now there's .04! :D

Heating the oil for the popcorn!

While were waiting for a Mod to clean-up the mess on aisle three...

Let me toss in my two cents too and see if we can make some decent change.

Why is it a sad error?
It's not. This is just NRA babble for the masses

And I wont accept 'its my right!!' as an answer.
More NRA babble

They didn't take away the right to bare arms.
Why sure they did. Until now if I wanted a clip that holds thirty or more rounds it had to be made before 1994. You can't expect me to show up at the gun range with a pre-1994 clip! What will my friends think...

They took away the right for average people to buy high speed killing machines.
CORRECT!!!

Do you hunt with an AK47?
Uh, yeah! PEOPLE are what you hunt with an AK47. It works very well at it too. You would almost think that's what it was designed for.

Do you need one to protect your family?
Buy a shootgun. If you somehow manage to miss atleast the sound will scare the crap out of thief

Do you use it for trap shooting?
Not unless it people "trapped" in an office, McDonalds, Post Office, etc...

Why on earth would any regular person need an assault weapon?
I know a few people who have these types of guns and its stretching it to call them "regular"

Just look at the name. ASSAULT weapon. Are you going to be assaulting something?
YES! People

You linked to sixth amendment. I have the right to a speedy and public trial?

I've heard it said once that an armed society is a polite society. At least we keep it polite here on CP. And I gather that a good many of us are armed as well! ;)

There was an assault weapon ban? Now there's not? The guy I buy my drugs from has been trying to sell me one for years. Wonder if he knew he wasn't allowed to do that?
NA

No, the reason I won't accept it is that it's a knee jerk response with no weight. That outdated ammendment is in there so that people could own muskets and rifles in case the British invaded to try and take America back.

I'm seriously interested in hearing one single valid reason for owning an assault weapon other than 'because I can'.

Actually Other1, it's a link to ALL of the amendments. You may need use your bare arms to scroll up the page just a bit! :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. Nothing personal, I'm quite sure that everyone is entitled to have their own opinion, see Amendment 1!

Terrorists, criminals, rabid dogs, foxes etc., mimes...

NA

Alright, I should have known nobody would discuss this seriously. Probably because nobody can really rationalize why they need an assault weapon.

I'll just go back to asserting my right to remain silent..

Because the ban assures that the only people that will have these guns are the ones who shouldn't have them. It is only enforcable against the very people it is designed to protect.

NA

Most anti remarks are by the uneducated public who have been lead to believe any gun is a threat to the public. Especially one that can hold 30 rounds and fire them as fast as you can pull the trigger. Please remember that you must pull the trigger for each shot. Nothing has changed about the laws on automatic weapons.

Is there any reasonable person out there that thinks a criminal with 3, 10 round clips is any less dangerous than one with a 30 round clip?

That's why there are so many full automatics on the street. :p

Is there any reasonable person who can explain the advantage of a clip that holds more than ten rounds. Most state hunting laws only let you have three round in the gun anyway.

You are all just arguing why you don't like the ban.. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why they need an assault rifle.

Then again, what do I know, I'm just uneducated.

Nice try but you dodged the question. Is he any less dangerous with 3 10s or 1 30?

I thought that was a reasonable question. We are speaking about criminals aren't we?
Or are you trying to say that no one should own a gun?
