Hi all, new post from a new member looking for advise. I have a 8 gun cabinet my grandfather built years ago, with glass doors and I was wondering if I could convert this into a humidor. I see similar humidors on the gallery pages. Here are the questions I am hoping you can answer; Will one cigar oasis be sufficient to supply humidity (if not, any suggestions), how would I seal the doors, would you put a light in it and should I keep the original dark maple or strip it somehow and stain it a oak color? I will line interior with spanish cedar or luan as well as the shelves I build. Many questions, but everything I have read in the past week reflects the knowledge and friendliness this website offers. I have a couple a pix, but cannot figure how to attach. Since I have a week off at Christmas, I'd like to dive into this project if you feel its is worthy. Thanks.

I too am a hunter and have a gun cabinet my dad made. Here's a couple thoughts:

1. Beef up your profile, tell us more about you

2. If it had contained guns, it will have a gun oil smell that may be hard to get rid of. Put an ozone machine in it for a few weeks and seal it up to get the smell out. Since oil may have penetrated the wood this could a show-stopper.

3. How big is it?...............you would want to use beads instead of CO

Good luck

Profile updated.

No guns. There are a few in the picture, but not stored in there. Now if I could ony post the pic.

Held 8 guns. I guess I will have to measure to get accurate volume. Heartfelt has beads by the pound. Is that what you are referring too? 1 lb for $30 seems reasonable.

Thanks.

Jeff has some great starting points, not really a one week project. Most important aspect of the conversion is whether or not you can make a good seal. If you can't make a seal, all else is moot.
