Gun people, look here

Gee.... a murderer would never steal their bullets, or use ID tags to frame other people.

Oh, and to say nothing of enthusiasts who make their own ammo....

On paper it looks good, but it would never be practical. Like Tream said, what about people who cast their own bullets. It is not hard by any means. And most of your criminals arent going to go down to the local Gander Mountain and buy their ammo they are going to use to kill someone with a handy credit card. And even if they did what would stop the criminals from just shaving off the number. Lead is soft and can be scraped off with a butter knife.

It is a good start though. It will be currious to see where the goes from here.

It could solve some crimes by at least knowing who PURCHASED the bullet, but that doesn't prove anything on who actually FIRED the weapon.

On another note, here is a great article from the Washington Post:New Florida Gun Law!

Dubbed (no pun intended) the Castle Doctrine, basically it states that in Florida, fear for your life is enough reason for protecting ones self in your own home, car or at the workplace, and that option of retreat is no longer required, thus...a person's home is his castle and intruders enter at their own peril!

Chock up another win for law abiding citizens!

The fundamental problem with gun laws is....do you really think criminals will follow the laws? Any of 'em?

Make / steal / smuggle ammo....lots of alternatives if a bad guy was so motivated.

I'm 107% for strict enforcement of the existing gun laws; there are plenty. I say we start there before we add more.

My $00.02 - B.B.S.

This reminds me of the Chris Rock bit about the price of a bullet.

To paraphrase: "If bullets cost $5000 each, there'd be no innocent bystanders. If someone got shot, you know he was the target."

Sounds like a great idea on paper, but doesn't sound feasible. Sounds to me like nobody but law-abiding citizens will be prosecuted if this law passes.

I am not a member of the NRA.
I am all for the strictest enforcement of gun laws.

I am for strick enforcement of present gun laws...not making more laws that are unenforcable. I left the NRA due to their present leadership being out of toutch with the real world.

Last I heard, there were a couple people that still had a spare bullet or two in the their closets. Much like the magazine capacity limits, this wont do anything, practically speaking.

(I'm all for banning people-mowers myself)

I agree about the people-mowers, any person who would shoot at random with no disregard to whom they are shooting should be banned from the planet. When caught, they should be tried, convicted, given their apeals, and then immediately terminated upon loss of last apeal! None of this sitting in jail for years stuff, swift death, using a registered bullet! :whistling:

The NRA membership was a gift. Thank god I moved to stop getting the newsletters and crap! :sign:

It's just a small step to trying to solve problems. Gotta start somewhere. Glad to see people aren't fighting over it here. Maybe we could bring back the politics forum....

Complete Idiots ! This is CA's way of outlawing guns because nobody would make serial numbered bullets.
Ya'all go out tomorrow and look at the size of a .22 bullet.
Then go cut open a shotgun shell and see if you can laser every last piece of shot.

This was though up way back in the 70's and Liddy dropped an handfull of .22's on a desk and asked where to put the serial numbers on them.

Look far right,, think they'll find the serial number after it impacts and expands ?

These legislatures obviously never have seen a bullet after it has been shot and impacted its target. Most of the bullets police would come across would be hollow points which are designed to seperate on impact.

Stupid.

Sounds cool, If the number is etched in the metal like on a gun it is a permanant resident. acid etching will always bring out the number, although as many have said how axactly do you find that on a hollow point or 22 caliber round.Just seems like another way to set someone up. and i dont see how it could ever be used in court.
interesting topic.
