Hey guys,
I am on the back deck smoking a Gurkha. It is the perfecto shape, red band, the guy has a yellow/orage sun behing him. No other identifying info on the bad, just he word gurkha in gold, on te "side" it says K. hasotia, under that in white says "hand made." There is a ring of gold with the letter G in smblack going around the band. Don't know which kind it is, but it is quite tasty.

What is it? I might want to get a few more.

Sounds to me like a "Master's Select" or a "Centurian Double-X. I have been wanting to try Both of these cigars for some time. How dark is the wrapper?

Not too dark.

If I had half a brain (debateable) I would have looked at his webiste. Looks like the Master Select. I wish i could rememebr where i got it. I'm pretty sure it was in a trade here. It might have even been in my newbie Trade. Now that I think of it, I think it was...i might have to email that FOG.

Just went back to the PM's I traded with the FOG after my newbie trade. It was indeed a centurian XX. GREAT smoke.

Wait...not sure anymore...I've got to go look at my singles collection. That might not have been it. I need better singles organization in my Non-isom humi.

Great. I am glad you liked it. I was thinking of ordering a mazo or two. A certain website has a 2 for 1 deal right now. ;)

Gurkha is not very good about identifying their cigars with the bands. A whole bunch will have the same band and unless you know what it was you won't be able to figure it out.

That is for sure. However the fact that it is a perfecto shape means that in my realm of experience it could be one of the aforementioned cigars. The only other one that has that shape is the Legend Aniversario or something of that sort. But it has a different band.

True, at the moment there are only 2 current cigars with that shape and that band. However, I have a few more older ones like the "Aged Cameroon" with that shape and band too.

True; Aniversario has a gold band

You know, I was discussing this with CalixEros the other weekend... Gurkha makes some nice cigars, but their branding is horrific, IMHO.

They have so many different lines of cigars, with seemingly more added on a regular basis. None of the lines are very well differentiated, at least to me...

Hey Smokelaw... holy crap! I smoked the same one last night at around 8:30pm at the local smoke shop (Virgil avenue). Definitely a Masters Select.

Thin mint aroma (pre-lit); clipped and draw were effortless and smooth. Copious amounts of smoke, light to medium bodies with hints of cocoa and cedar.

Recently I ordered the assortment of Gurkha tins from Thompson's catalogue (page 38, lower right side of the page). Smallish smokes (4 1/4 by 30, if memory serves me correctly). Can't wait. Especially interested in trying their Havana selection line.

Its amazing that K Hansotia would even consider such a small smoke, with most of his cigars being howizers!

Darren

So after this post and discussion the other night I decided to head to the local Vendome (wine & spirits shop) by my Pop's house and see if they had a Gurkha. As it turns out they had the Masters Select perfecto #3 there. I promptly bought one and another cigar a little more rare. ;) What a great cigar. It was very smooth and medium bodied. I left just the nub and realized that I was quite light headed. Either I am one heck of a light weight or this cigar packs a good punch. I think I will post my first review on this baby. I am gonna have to pick up a 5'er of these things. A damn good cigar.
