I picked up a couple of Gurkha cigars (celo & cedar wrapped) at my local b&m on my way out of town on Thursday. I generally like the Gurkha line and decided it would be as good as anything to take with me. On both cigars I had an exceptionally tough time keeping the wrapper burning down with the rest of the cigar. I am a newbie here but by no means a new cigar smoker. The wrapper just simply would not keep burning with the rest of the cigar - it would evenly quit burning all the time. The cigar was lit well but just did not ride out correctly.

The cigars smelled of fresh tobacco when unwrapped - almost as fragrant as a pack of Red Man. The draw was fine. The smoke was fine but the wrapper was trouble.

My question is this: Do you think the b&m humidor at the b&m is overly humidified resulting in some saturation of the wrapper or do you think these cigars had something wrong from the outset?

I picked up 10 Gurka Regents a few month ago and 4 out of the 5 I have had I could not stop the wrapper from spliting while being smoked. All my other stick have been fine just the Gurka's got me scratching my head. ???

Best Regards
Don

It is most likely a humidification problem. Sounds like what is happening is the "tunnel" affect. Use the Search.
As for the wrapper pealing, try getting the cigar wet for a few seconds (not the foot).

Thanks I will try that. I am also going to let the last few sit a few more months in 65% RH.

I've had a pretty decent amount of gurkha cigars. Of them all, the only burn issues I have ever had problems with are the Regents. 2 of 4 need some correction or had splitting issues... I keep my cigars at ~65 RH. Maybe I should have dry boxed some for a few hours longer...
Did you buy Gurkha Regents? If so, that could be the problem. If not, probably humidity issues. B&Ms generally keep their cigars way to over humidified, from my experiences. Letting them sit in your humi for a week should do the trick. But than again, I'm just a newbie, too

I am not certain that what I purchased was a Regent but it could very well have been. The shop is usually reliable but there is no way to check when they received the stock or anything like that. Other off the rack cigars that I have fired up from there without them getting to my house have been fine.

I may stay away from Gurkha Regents unless I can take them to my humi for a while prior to smoking...I just did not have that option on my way out of town.

Thanks for the input everyone!

I've smoked through a super sampler of theirs and some of the wrappers burn to slow, some don't. It's a pain...

I love Gurkhas, and usually keep numerous Triple Ligeros and Legend Anniversario Perfectos on hand. I have never had a burn issue with either of those. I have had cigars crack and tunnel on me before, but it's typically when I haven't given a cigar proper resting time in the humidor. I try to let everything rest for at least a week. However, impatience gets the best of me at times, and I'll smoke something right out of the UPS box and end up with cracks and tunneling.
