Ham Radio Operators - Any out here?

Well, I'm sure Rod has something big over there, considering what bands he's on.

As for me, it's a long and sad tale.......

The wife was away at the beach and I, misguided as I am when she's away, strayed off the beaten path, into the dark and mystical ways of boredom. I happened upon a buddy of mine who was selling a Ringo Ranger antenna. Boy, What a deal I got! $25 and three, count them, three sections of 10 foot mast thrown in just to consummate the deal!!!

Well, I got it all home, bungied to my little Blazer (boy, did I get some looks).

I began bangin and bending and before you know, I had that 40 foot rig all assembled and ready to stand upright! Well, this was easier said than done, mind you! But finally, on the fifth try, I made it official, vertical and all. Now, the problem was that ideally, mounting in a tree would have been preferred, but, due to lack of equipment and just plain know-how, I settle for a temporary solution.

I drove a large length of lightning rod into the ground by the house. No, I didn't call Miss Utility, either!
Then I carefulled dropped the hollow mast onto that and what a sight to behold! My joy was short-lived, however, as the 40 foot contraption started to fall! I luckilly caught it and no seriuos damage was done. I ended up bungy cording the thing to a forsithium bush, and I was in business.
Now, the process of wiring the coax inside through a window, around the couch an finally to the desk location where a walkie-talkie size 2 meter rig anxiously awaited. The coax was in and wooo hoo, I was talking half way across the state of Virginia, keying up every repeater between Va. Beach and Roanoke!

Well, to make a long story short, the wife returned a few days later and was out the back, letting the dogs take care of business , when she saw it!

I got a very nasty phone call at work, she didn't speak to me for a week, and only did in the end cause I took the thing down!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This is Tom Bodett, we'll leave the light on for ya!

(sorry, I was bored at work!)

Leebo :D

My antenna isn't that big... It's a vertical multiband, and is about 14 feet tall. What I really want is a beam, then I'd have a big antenna and I'll have great coverage world wide (when the bands are open). The vertical works very well though. It really helps to have an antenna tuner always on. :)

Thanks Benji!

My antenna lies disassembled in my shed. It was certainly a possible cause for divorse, so, I'm trying to figure out a way to get it in a tree this summer and bury the coax so the wife doesn't see it. I also have a beam (yes, then I will be world wide) that I'm going to mount in my attic, so the wife doesn't see that either.

Aint life grand!!!!!!!
