Hard Cider

Ask some of our Finnish BOTL's. I've spent a decent amount of time there and cider is almost as popular as beer. Most of the stuff from the UK was good and crisp. I'd recommend Crowmoor or Strongbow as both of them are imported into the US.

Paid a visit to one of the big liquor shops in town and all they carry is Woodchuck, Hardcore, and Hornsby's. Will have to hit the other big shop later this week to see if they carry something non-domestic.

Picked up some Woodchuck Amber and I must say, it is a nice smooth drink. It does not have the semi-harsh afterbite of Hornsby's and is not too sweet.

Any suggestions for a nice hard cider?
Yup, make your own. Every commercial brand I've tried is inferior to what you can accomplish at home. The problem is acquiring unpasteurized cider. I go the local orchards in the fall to get it.

I was considering that, but the nag-o-meter would go off the scale if I started home brewing again. :(

Well here is a report on the ones I have tried so far.

Hornsby's Amber- Ok cider, a bit too sweet and a touch of a harsh aftertaste.

Woodchuck Amber- Very nice and smooth. Great apple flavor and not too sweet. Those boys in Vermont have a good thing going.

Hardcore- Bitter watery swill, not much of an apple flavor coming through. Tastes like a light beer with a hint of apple juice tossed in. Would be better off chewing on a rotten apple.

Now to find a cigar that will complement a good cider.

I'm partial to Dickens Cider.

My Lil Sweetie likes 7 up N cider. During the winter She prefers hot Dickens cider.

(Any Bob and Tom fans it's an old skit)

Checked out a liquor shop last night on a friends suggestion. Cider heaven! There must be 8 different kinds in the cooler at this place.

I grabbed a 6 pack of Woodpecker and gave one a try. Very nice!

It is on par with the Woodchuck Cider, but slightly better in my opinion. Smooth, crisp, and a nice flavor that keeps you coming back for more.

I could get in trouble with this stuff!

My wife likes the Woodpecker cider, too, but I can never find it around here. It's always the Woodchuck kind and I tend to get confused sometimes and get that. Haven't had it in a long time, though, but I remember it was really good.
