Well, since the girlfriend is now home and can't get out of bed, I told her I was going without her. :( :laugh:

the local place had showings at 12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11, and finally 12 today and I caught the 5 and they had sold out all the ones before and were down to 15 when I got in. I really didn't realize it would be that BIG.

I won't discuss the details because I've never read the book, and I'm sure there is others who see the movies but may not read the books, but I thought it was awesome! I wouldn't take my 12 yr. old cousin to see it, but older than that should handle it. Awesome graphics and just kick ass.

Can't wait for the fifth! :thumbs:
 
I've read the books and seen every movie. Own the first 3 on DVD. For this little town of 12k people, its been sold out every show which isnt surprising. They cut out alot of details in the books that should have been in the movie. But oh well. It wasnt a bad movie and could have been better.
 
I agree with KB. Ditched out of work Friday and caught the 1115 am showing. Great graphics and pretty decent flick but my 5 year old won't be seeing it and I don't think my neices will either. I actually cried but I can't wait for the next !!! :thumbs: :thumbs: :thumbs:
 
I cant wait till its on DVD. Then i can watch it in peace. This theater was PACKED and I had some spastic kid next to me and I was in the very front row. :angry:

I've never seen private ryan, but I heard it was pretty bad. I saw the exorist when I was 8 or 9, and it still doesn't give me the willys.

I believe I'll have to start reading the books. I honestly hate waiting a year to see what'll happen next. Would it be alright if I picked up at "Order of the Phoniex" or should I read the first ones? God I hope not. Aren't they 800 pages? ???

I know, my parents let me see it because I was really into WW2 and history and what not back then, I figured it out it came out in 1998, which would have actually made me 11 back then. How time flies...

Read the book they are better than the movies. I hope she doesnt kill Harry in the last one but i think she will.She is tired of writeing and doesnt want to be hounded by fans.
 
She has no reason to write any more after the 7th book. She is already a Billionaire. I would read the books first. It really gives you an idea about all that is going on. Some of the books isnt long at all. Plus, 800 pages doesnt take long at all to read at what level she writes at.

It was a good movie and it's the first 15 minutes that are really overboard on voilence. The troubling part about the Normandy scene is not the blood or the death, it is that, unlike horror flicks, it was real. It is a fair portrayal of the Normandy landing with *alot* of chaos and death in a very little time. People who can not handle the realism are ther ones who are turned off by this portion of the film.

Definitely read the books. Philosopher's / Sorcerer's [1] Stone is only 309pg (and that is why it transfered to film so well). Same with book Chamber of Secrets (340 pgs). Book three they start to grow, Prisoner of Azkaban is 434pgs, Goblet of Fire is 734 pgs and Order of the Phoenix is 870 pgs. All information above is the American 5x7 Paperback (not Mass Market Size). The newest book, Half-Blood Prince, is still in Hardcover only and it is 652 pgs. The detail and backstory are well worth the time to read it. YOu can see the progression in Rowling's skill through the books, though HBP disappointed me a bit. Honestly, they are an easy enough read that I got through all six books in two weeks (reading only nights and weekends).

On the original topic, I haven't seen the new movie yet, since it isn't released overseas yet. However, I do know many of the "changes" and I'll reserve judgement on how it changes the product until I see it. I also know of the one large mistake at the end of the film which should be obvious to anyone who has read book 6, but will pass most people. PM for info if you really want to know either topic.

Okay, I have never read a Harry Potter book, nor watched one of his movies. For the sake of sheer curiousity, can anybody sum up the progression of the series in 100 words or less?
 
1.)His parents killed and raised by assclowns. Goes to Hogwarts. Saves his friends and school.

2.) Locked in room and saved by the Weasly's. Misses train and takes flying car to school. Saves school again.

3.) Harry see's dog after running away. Takes the Knight Bus to London. Saves the day once again.

4.) Gets entered into the Goblet of Fire. Saves the day again.

5.) Albus gets removed after a long plot to get rid of him. Harry saves the day.


6.) Another one..Harry saves the day eventho Sirius was killed.

There ya go. Alot left out but its all the same. Harry saves the day. I personally think the success has gone to her head to much and writing novesl longer than they need to be. The last 2 books was kinda disappointing IMHO.

But either way, still alot of fun to read and watching the movies is cool too. But it isnt for everyone cuz I have friends that hate Harry Potter. Eventho they have never read the book or seen the movies. :sign:

Progression of the series or plot?

The series is basically about Harry and his friends as they progress through a wizarding school. He starts at 11 yo, which is whan "first years" are allowed to attend. Each book is one year at the school, until the last book (Book 7, age 18 - graduation) which will finish the story. Simultaneously, you (and Harry) learn over the course of the books that his fate is intertwined with that of the evil Dark Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents when he was only 1 yr old. Eventually you discover why Voldemort tried to kill Harry when he was young and why their lives are connected.

That's the progression of the series without rehashin the plot points as (sarcastically) shown above.

Goblet of Fire is my favorite book in the series.

I can't wait till it is finally released over here.
 
Saw the movie last night with my kiddies without any issues, in fact my 8 year old wants to see it again. The book definately has greater suspense and details.

Loved all the books and can't wait for the last when Harry and the That who cant' be named faces off and Ron and Hermoine finaly get it on.....

What was your favorite part of the movie without releasing the entire plot of the movie?

Not a bad weekend at the box office either only a mere 101.4 million dollars!
 
The acceptance into Hogwarts is the age of 10, not 11. Sorry to inform you that. :p And my post wasnt sarcasm. I actually love Harry Potter. The summary is the truth. There really isnt much of a plot to the whole series other than its Harry and friends banding together to defeat Voldermort. Other than the trivial every day drama that comes with being a teenager. Really not much to it. But since I do study Literature, this series is a refreshing change from the acedemic reading I have to do on a daily basis.

There was alot of funny parts in the beginning of the movie, but as it got to the closing side of the movie, the audience really got quiet. I did really enjoy the first test tho. They did a stand up job representing it in the movie eventho they did cut some cool parts of it tho. But oh well. Its Hollywood after all. :laugh:

The movies would all be 3 to 4 hours long if they left everything in bro... lol not that I would complain.

Nah..thats not what I am referring to tho. Look at book 1. When they are sent out into the Forest with Hagrid as punishment. The children that went out in the books and the ones that was sent out in the movies, doesnt even come close. Longbottom was supposed to be there, but then again, its Hollywood.

I guess it all depends on what they think is important for the movie goer to see. :p I can go on all day on many things that they changed or should have put in and other parts they put in that didnt need to be there. I'm sure you can too. :thumbs:
