Hey guys, I'm heading to Cozumel in 2 weeks for a wedding. I'll be there for a week before hand and plan on taking in the sites and seeing what Cozumel and Cancun have to offer. I hear there is a LaCdH in Cancun which is one my list of stops. Are there any other places, cigar related or not, which come recommended?

Great place for a wedding. A buddy got married on the beach in Playa del Carmen, and it was great.

You'll see a ton of fake cigars away from the LCDH.

Seams like LCDH is the only place then for cigars? Any good places that amke tequillia?

I'm not overly familiar with the geography of Mexico, but I think the province of Tequila is quite a distance from Cancun and that area... and I'm sure there are some experts here on this, but IIRC tequila only comes from said province. A similar spirit to tequila is mezcal, much like bourbon comes from Bourbon County, Kentucky. Any other corn based spirit is just a whisky (or is it whiskey?).

That being said, you can get some mighty fine tequilas from shops all around.

If you can handle the sticker shock, the LCDH will have the real deal, but I would stay away from any aother sources since fakes are rampant in Mexico.

Only buy from stores in Mexico with this seal in the window:

I was in Playa del Carmen last month and I saw it on one or two places, including the duty free in the Cancun airport.

Here's the article about it:

I agree with that. I was in Conzumel last year. I remember many places with obvious counterfeit cigars. Only buy from the SA Habanos store.

I figured that the LCDH was the only place to buy. I'll be on a look out for those stickers. Anyone want some Glass Top Cohibas?

The LCDH in PdC has reopened near the start of 5th Ave.

I suggest taking the ferry across to PdC (playa del Carmen)

Hit Casa Partagas (owned by Mons, on 5th, between 14 & 16), it's the best place there!

A bit off topic but... Actually, the bourbon thing is a bit of an old wives tale. For example, Knob Creek is distilled in Clermont, Ky which is in Bullitt county. Here's the reference: http://www.whiskyportal.com/distillery.asp?DistilleryID=1006&DistilleryName=Small+Batch+Distillery There's other extreme examples such as Bourbon distilled in California, but I'm most familiar with Knob Creek.

There are requirements for Whiskey to be called bourbon and these specifications are spelled out via the US Govt. However, the county of distillation isn't one of them. Link :)

Definatly looked for this sticker. Found it at the Partigas store in PdC (thanks Mark!) and on the LCdH in Cancun.
