Well I’m 21 year old, 3rd year student at the University of Calgary up here in Calgary Alberta Canada, so that takes up my time in the winter months. I work and make some cash in the summer only to blow it on tuition again in the fall. Yup, it’s a vicious cycle, but I only have two more years left so I’m counting the days. Then I can go out and get a real job only to be working toward yet another target, my CA designation...arg, does it ever end. Life is all about chasing I have figured out.
In the summer months between landscaping shifts, I Like to hang out at my family cabin located at a lake about 2 hours away from home called Pigeon Lake. It’s nice to relax under the sun with a cold beer as opposed to being stuck in the city. Hoping to improve on that with a nice stogie this time around. I have a Yamaha R6, so ripping around on that now and then is always fun.
As to how I became interested in cigars...
On a trip to my girlfriends cabin in Whitefish Montana this winter, her father, Dave, invited me out to the patio after a night of having a few (to many for both of us) beers, to have a cigar. Well the girl and I had been dating for about a year, but this was the first "real talk" with the father. It was nice to hang out and just forget about any troubles in my life. No worries about school, nor where tuition was coming from, insurance payments...nothing, just the man and I, chillin on the patio, beer for me, and a scotch for him. As he handed me the cigar, I felt like a virgin on prom night. I though to my self, “great, now how the hell do I go about this without looking like a complete noob jack-ass.” So instead of bullsh*tting my drunk ass through it, I just put it out in the open that, yes, I was in-fact a cigar virgin. Well he walked me through the personal ritual of the guillotine slice, and the butane light instead of the newly acquired paper matches I was so intent on using that I swiped from the Bulldog (the bar we were at in Whitefish). Once that was all settled, it was now time to pretend that we were important people in this world. We sat outside close to an hour chatting and pondering the meaning of life until our cigars shrank, and our bevy’s dwindled.
Since then I have had 3 other cigars, I know one was a Macanudo, and the other a PUNCH, and forget the last. I liked what I can remember, and let me tell yea they were much more enjoyable than the Colts and Backwood Sweets my buddies pass around that I absolutely hate. I have read up on these and found the few cigars that I’ve encountered to be on the mild-med scale, but I enjoyed them and am excited to see what else is out there in all different types and flavours.
I don’t know how to explain it, but relaxing with that cigar and letting my thoughts wonder just put me at ease. Of course it is accented with good conversation and a drink of choice, but those are added bonuses. Well gentlemen, I truly enjoyed the experience and alas, I am here. I hope to meet some of you, and learn from your experiences of the cigar world. Like I said, I’m a complete noob so don’t hesitate to shoot me some info on beginner tips or mistakes. Ill soak up all I can, but only so much can be learned from forum chitchat. Really interested in the newbie cigar-trading thing you guys have going. It’s a great idea by the way. Maybe I’ll talk to some of you in there because I was thinking of buying a box or so to get me started, but receiving a wider selection to understand what I like, and do not like seems to make more sense.
Well that’s me in a nutshell; hope I didn’t bore you too much. Now back to your regular scheduled programming folks!
