Hello fellas, I recently struck a deal with a guy from another forum of mine that seems to be an awesome guy. We have struck up a trade and I am getting his humidor and some stogies. He says there are several Cubans in it, the ones on the left in the top picture are supposed to be the cubans and the one's on the right he said are mostly handrolled imports. I am very new to the game but would be super excited if these are the real deal cubans. He seemed like a really nice guy without a motive to lye. so I figured I would ask you guys. what they are and which ones I really need to savor? one thing I noticed was the hygrometer is reading 80 something. is this just because the lid is open? i don't know how fast they react. if it is really a little over 80% in it, are the sticks still gonna smoke good?

thanks for you time guys,

In that first pic, the hygrometer is reading 100%. Must be raining inside your humidor. Do some reading around here about analog hygrometers. Despite the poor quality of the pictures, and the lack of zoom on the cigars you're asking about, the Cohiba band still appears to be wrong. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they're all fakes.

1) Unless it's nearly raining in the room...they Hygrometer should 'drop' not be up that high.
1a) You may need to recalibrate the device( search 'salt test')

2) Try them to know what cigars you will 'savor'....your taste is different from mine!

3) Correct your punctuation before the ghost of Mrs. Crabtree comes out of the old forum skin!!!!

btw - the top pic is upside down....according to your description.

Tom...without a close up...it could be an old Cohiba band...dunno, I left my glasses at home. ???

Could be, its tough from those pictures. Also, looking at the cedar-wrapped R&J in the middle of the top pic... are those glass tubes, or just bands around the feet? I'm not familiar with anything that would have that appearance.

If you look at the cap of the R&J's they almost look like they might be cello wrapped...

sorry guys, these are just the cell phone pictures he sent me. will they still be a good smoke even if they were kept in 80% humidity? can I bring it back down to %65 for a while to help them out?

I'd be more concerned that the "Cubans" are likely fake. As for the humidity it's impossible to tell what the actual humidity is because those analog hygrometers are notoriously inaccurate as Tom explained.

=] Thanks, is that a good thing or bad? oh and I have already ordered a digital hygrometer. along with some 65% heartfelt beads for my tuppedor.

I would be less worried about the hygrometer and more worried about the authenticity of those cigars. He may not have a motive to lie, but that doesn't mean he knows a real Cuban from a fake. HERE is the closest thing I can find to match those three cedar wrapped cigars between the Cohiba and the Partagas tube. They look to be Cedros de Luxe #2 but look quite a bit off from the ones listed on the linked website. Unless they are an older version as well. Personally, I would ask some serious questions about the provenance of those cigars before you go investing.

No 3?

Caveat emptor.

???

to be onest I am only going to have $150 in it including the humidor and the smokes in it, I think either way it is probabbly a pretty good deal.

To each his own!

I am sorry, I just thought humidors of that size were around $100 anyways. and the other cigars (not the cubans in question) I figured would run $50 or so. I will see if the guy will send me some better pictures of the cigars in question and go from there I guess. thanks for the advice. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't looking a gift horse in the mouth by questioning the guy if they weren't fakes. from what he told me he works for a global company that has a base in cuba he frequently had to visit. So I figured the guy got them when he was over there and they were the real deal. with you guys advice however, I think I will see if he can give me some better info and pictures.

Without seeing the pictures (blocked here at work) my skeptical side says they are likely to be fake. Also, anybody who has a story about working for a company that has connections puts my guard up even more. Can't tell if the humidor is worth the price, coupled with what may be improper storage. What I will say is that for $150 you can buy a cooler and some nice smokes from your local or online without having to worry about where they came from.

As an aside, has he given a logical reason why he's offering up this "deal"?

He said he had a kid an his wife axed his smoking, I guess I may just look elsewhere. I just don't have a clue where about I might find some more CC's I guess I could PM some people here on the board, Anyone know who would be the best person to give me some advice PM'ing me their name would be fine,

thanks for the great advice guys, I am glad I found this place.
