Help me identify this flavor

This evening I lit a Cusano 59 Rare Cameroon and the first few puffs reminded me of a flavor I've tasted in other cigars but have never been able to quite put my finger on. It is a very characteristic of the Nub Connecticut, Perdomo Lot 23 and 5 Vegas Gold that I've smoked. The Cusano lost a bit of this flavor after the first half inch or so but its still subtly present and was VERY predominant in the aforementioned Perdomo and 5 Vegas. I specifically want to know because its not a flavor I enjoy and the only way I can describe it is "egg" or perhaps just a mellow, hay-ish flavor. To describe it in an abstract fashion, its a open yellow taste. Does anybody know off hand what I might be tasting? Its probably based on a type of tobacco that is probably found in all these cigars.

I think the only time I had a 5 Vegas Gold, it tasted like paper. It didn't have any intricacies or nuisances to it. Instead it was rather flat, bland, boring, buring paper.
 
When I'm trying to describe a flavor or aroma, I often find a flavor wheel to be a great asset.

Typically, a wine or coffee wheel is quite applicable to cigars.

My thoughts on the flavor you're getting is terrible unsalted butter. That's what I always think of when I smoke Connecticut wrapped cigars...

.....but all in all, I will say I agree with Doc!
 
sounds like urine to me....not that I know what it taste like, but purely a speculation.... :whistling:

I think I can relate to what you are describing, and I describe it as "hayish". It usually falls in line with Doc's quote. Low quality tobacco. Try an 1888 and see if you taste the same thing!

On a side note, I just asked you to try a cigar I think might taste like urine...."Hey this is gross, taste it!" :cool:

Unfortunate, I have had an 1888. I may have put up mental blocks after smoking it since I don't remember a single thing about its flavor.
