Help me with my 1st cigar order

Ok, so I'm fixing to order my first batch of cigars. I also need to get a decent cutter, lighter and humidor.

First off, I want to get twenty fairly priced small cigars such as corona, lonsdales, etc. From my experience, I think I would like something that is sweet and mild, and I don't want to get overwhelmed or anything. Going solely on what I've read and know about cigars, which is not much, I'm guessing that i need some sungrowns.

I also want to get a couple five packs which will up my count to thirty cigars, so I'll need a humidor that holds..say 25-50. I don't know what cigars these will be yet. Something under 5 bucks though. I've already got some ideas from my previous threads, but please suggest whatever you like. Maybe some maduros, not set on anything at all really.

If I could get a humidor included in a package deal that would be great but I wonder if it would fit my cigars. Since most the freebie humidors I've seen are twenty count, and I'm buying 20 small cigars and ten regular to large cigars there is a slim chance it would work. What do you think?

I'd like to get out for 125, don't know if that will happen though.

What is your advice?

My advice would be to take some time to figure out what cigars you like before plunking down your cash to buy all of those cigars.

true, it wouldn't be a bad idea. I would go the sampler route but so many don't offer the very best brands. However, I did find this one a minute ago. Too bad its backordered. That is something i'd go for even without owning a humidor. Smoke em in two or three days. Its just a five count sampler

Anyone know of any good five or ten samplers like this? One that have a combination of these brands in them...
Padron
Cohiba
Arturo Fuente
Partagas
La Aurora
La Cloria Cubana
Punch
Romeo y Julieta
Bolivar
CAO
Fuente Fuente
Hoyo de Monterrey
El Rey del Mundo
Montecristo
Macundo

I would get the humi first (one size bigger than you think you need) and while you are seasoning it decide what smokes you want and go from there. This way when they arrive they will have a nice home waiting for them.

I agree with the above, get your humifdor first. If you think you want a 25 count then get a 75 count. You'll end up buying one anyway.

Many vendors sell samplers but they don't often mix brands. I don't know where you livve but another thing I strongly recommend is that you start this trek of yours at a local brick and morter shop.

Go in and look around. Smell the cigars, look at them, pick them up and see how they feel (cello'd sticks only), then you can decide what YOU want to smoke.

YOur tastes are going to differ from other people's tastes, especiallly as you start out. You've got a solid list of brands there, take it slow and see what YOU like, not what we like.

For what you are looking for, I'm not sure if a Newbie Sampler Trade is the way to go, but it's something you might look into.

You might also consider posting an ISO request in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum. I'm sure someone can help you out and you'll probably get a better deal/selection than you'd get from an on-line vendor. Just remember to post what type of sampler you're looking for and the price that you want to pay.

You also may want to try Cigar International. They sell a lot of sampler packs with a humidor included (not the best, but it will suffice). As a hobby cigar smoker myself who may only smoke one a week, you should heed my advice (along with the other guys here): buy something BIGGER than you think you'll need.

I started with a nice 50 count desktop humidor, which got filled QUICK after a couple of weeks. I then bought some more cigar samplers from the CI website above which came with a humidor, and that got filled. I now have a 70 quart COOLER which is filling up. I know it sounds like it would NEVER happen to you, but you may be surprised at how fast it builds up, since you ALWAYS buy more cigars than your capacity to smoke them. Supply > demand = overflow!

I would recommend that you either buy a fairly inexpensive humidor or make a tupperdor and either do a newbie sampler trade here on CP or order a variety sampler form one of the big online retailers.

Then write down what you like from your sampler and either come back on here and let us know what you liked and what you didn't and we could make some recommendations. Also, if you have a local B&M that is any good you should be able to get some really good recommendations there as along as you know what you like (flavor wise) or know of a couple cigars that you know you like. My first time into my local I asked the guy working the humidor what he would recommend, he asked what I had tried and what I liked about them and he pointed me to 8-10 cigars to try. I walked out with a good selection of cigars and I greatly enjoyed all of them (plus he didn't only point me towards the high end sticks, for the most part he kept me in the $4-$6 range with one or two that cost a little more)

I've got a 25ct cigar jar that I'm looking to get rid of for cheap...I've gotta limit the number of humidors I have b/c of my traveling. Pm me if you want.

yeah, good point. As i've been perusing around cigar stores online, you often have to buy 25 or 50 to get a good deal.
