Very cool!

Craig, when are we gonna get together for an ID/UT herf? It's only a 5 hour drive between SLC and Boise. I'm sure some of the other Spud Brothers would be interested as well. Do you ever get up to Jackpot, NV? That's about mid-point, and we can hit some of the tables at the same time.

Hey Sherrif,
I'll be in Pocy on Monday; that's less than 2 hours from Salt Lake. Shoot me your # and maybe we can hook up. I might be up for a little drive, or maybe we can meet half way? Who knows ...

Thanks,
- C

I got a chance to meet lucasbuck last night and share a smoke. I drove down from Pocatello to Ogden, and Craig brought his bud Duane and met me at the City Club bar. I called ahead and found that the City Club is cigar friendly. I thought it was going to next to impossible to find a place that would allow cigars, but one of the cigar stores pointed me towards the City Club.

It was great to meet lucasbuck and meet the man behind the nickname. Craig is really cool and has a huge passion for cigars; it was well worth the trip. It is great to meet people on the board and share ideas and information online, but it is far more rewarding to meet friends in person and share a smoke. I look forward to herfing with as many S/BOTLs as possible!!

.... See you in Vegas at the CP Herf!!

Edit to add:

Oh yea .. I forgot to mention the horrible revelation Craig shared with me. It appears that Salt Lake City (maybe all of Utah, can't remember) has voted on a plan to ban smoking entirely from any public place by 2009. So in 3 years you won't even be able to smoke in any of the private clubs. WTF is going on with people trying to legislate morality?!?!

So does he really look like "The Dude" from the Big Lebowski?

Got to herf with him last week. He is quickly becoming the cigar ambassador for Salt Lake City, isn't he?

Glad you enjoyed meeting the man, and way to go, once again, Lucasbuck...

This is a good quote I keep for just such occasions, a fair description of such politics. Written by C.S. Lewis of Narnia fame:

Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated: but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I forgot to bring a camera, but I can definitely see the likeness. Just take away all the hair and shorten the beard a little, add glasses and Poof, he could be the standin double. :p

Man, what a great time I've had over the last few days. Met and smoked with Steve (ALostTexan) on Thursday and then Cory (Blue Dragon) on Monday. This is what it's all about. Monday night was great fun. I have to say Cory really went above and beyond setting the whole thing up. I'd like to say I met him half way but he drove 2 hours to my 20 minutes :D He also gifted me a couple of amazing sticks. We ate, drank, talked story and smoked some fine cigars. It doesn't get much better then that. I only wish we would have had more time. Any of the Idaho crew is welcome anytime and I hope to get up North myself sometime soon. In the meantime, the Dude abides
