Holy Frick

$10K and it doesn't even come with a digital hygrometer. It's kind of ugly too - I guess I just don't appreciate "fine" art... :sign:

Fugly - and what's with that whole brain looking thing on top?

The seller can keep it and I won't have to sell my kidney for the $10k

I think that's quite possibly the ugliest humidor I've ever seen. Looks like gaudy & Dr. Seuss having a 3-some with Tiffany.

I think it is an interesting piece, but $10,000? That is my problem with art these days. I have seen some real nice pieces of art from independant artists over my short life, but they all charge rediculously high prices for their work! I understand that they need to pay the bills, but I often feel tat i would have boughten some of this art if it was reasonible, or no so rediculously overpriced. Couldn't they still pay their bills if they produced a little more and lowerewd their prices to something easier for the average joe to shell out?

That's the most ridiculous humidor I've ever seen. I bet they won't even sell 10 of the 100.

CJ,

I have heard of this artist before and he's legit, but I know what you are referring to. Just like everything else in a newer generation, young artisans want it all now. Rather than working tirelessly at distinguishing themselves from the rest of the artistic community through hard work and determination (taking your work from dealer to dealer, doing small galleries, or self financed showings)....they use technology to hasten the process and charge exorbitant prices for their work thinking that will put them up there with older well respected artists that have earned a place in their chosen medium where high prices are earned.

I'm not saying that Yankel Ginzburg is one of these type artists, at 63 years old and a Russian National he learned his craft in a time honored tradition which I think was originally glass. He has been shown in major art galleries on every continent. The workmanship on that humidor is incredible, all done painstakingly by hand....if you like airbrushed acrylic. I've seen other humidors he's made in the past where he usually just creates a fancy lid for the box.

Art is always subjective.

Some people with more money than sense are these artists target market.

It may not be my taste, but it is very cool to look at and appreciate for it's attention to detail. Someone just has to teach Mr. Ginzburg what the real inner workings of a humidor are!

^QFT^

I never understood the ridiculous price tags on some "artwork". The sad thing is some dude with $$$$$$$$$$$ will come along and buy it, just because it's $10K.

Andrew - I assume you are referring to Gaudi? ;)

Anyway I remember seeing this artists work & humis during the cigar boom of the 90's in art galleries and at cigar industry shows and someone always bought them. There was even one for $75K. His work is unique, not my style nor my pocketbook. To each his own. I am a part time painter and struggle to sell & produce enough quality work to either make it profitable or go full time. Gallery owners, reps, fair sponsors, etc. all want a "little" piece of the action; there is very little left for the artist many times. Techknology is a big competitor for fine art money because of reproductions and "art farms." NOW Modern "Art" that is a completely different conversation.

Nope. I meant gaudy. As in:

gaudy 1 |ˈgôdē|
adjective ( gaudier , gaudiest )
extravagantly bright or showy, typically so as to be tasteless : silver bows and gaudy ribbons.

...the sexual tryst was metaphorical in nature ;)

For some strange reason I really like that damn thing! Kind of like Freeberns weird fixation of the big girls..
