I spent my weekend in the OC these last few day with my fiance. When I usually go somewhere different I tend to keep an eye out for B&M's to see what they might have that I've never seen before ....

So we goto the Irvine Spetrum, my fiance is shopping so I take a look around and spot a directory and BAM ... hellz yeah there is a cigar shop called Cuban Cigar Factory. So I wonder over there in hopes I'd find some treasure.

When I get there its this little shop with a pretty small walk-in. So I go in to check the inventory, ok selection but everything I've seen aside from the Playboy Tubed Cigars, so I look to my left and there was an open box of VSG Tres Mystique. So I figured, eh .. I'll get myself one and smoke while I wait for my fiance. As I approach the box I looked at the price ....WTF???? $20, I was so pissed and angree ...can they jack up the price 300% and get away with it....I was so sick to my stomach I just left.

$20 for a Tres Mystique :0

Damn, I believe that msrp for this stick is $8.25.
What a rip off...

welcome to socal, thank you for not feeding the gougers.

it's depressing, and people pay it, bunch of dumb rich idiots.

there's very few and far between b&m's around here that offer anything at a decent price.

Unfortunately, on top of maybe some gouging, there is an extremely high tobacco tax in CA. Not making an excuse for the shop owner here, but B&M's in CA have to pay almost a 50% tax on the whole sale price, so they are at a huge disadvantage competing with not only online shops, but shops in other states.

They are no better on the north end of the state either!
I was in Santa Rosa a couple weekends ago and saw insane prices too!
I thought it was just my local B&M, but it appears to be statewide.
I hear Arizona has decent prices! :sign:

Thats about the same price we are paying in Central/Northern Cali. VSG Enchantment is going for $18.00 in Fresno's biggest B&M.

I feel for ya Bro, trust me. Come to Canada where you'll pay $23 for a Short Story!!!!

David's in Rancho and Azucar/Caribe in Corona seem to do okay without the BS markup.
Thanks for the plug Audilicious. Even though I own a piece of Azucar, I do quite a bit of shopping at David's Gift and Tobacco. They have a great selection, great staff, and probably the lowest prices in California. I never mind giving them my business.

Don't visit Vegas and try to buy something on the strip. A lot of places in Vegas think that since you're coming here to spend money, you'll spend the money or the casinos' for that matter, to buy what you want.

If you don't like the prices, don't buy. It sucks, but it's your choice. I know prices are outrages in some areas, what can you do?

There are quite a few good stores in Vegas with decent prices, but not on the strip. There is an Indian Piaute shop near downtown where the prices are really good.(no taxes) but the selection is limited.

I know which store you're talking about Mas Puros. Shopping with the wifey always kills me, so whenever I'm surprised with a plaza/mall that has a cigar store I swear I pee a little bit in my pants. Then I walk into the store to find ridiculous (and I DO MEAN RIDICULOUS) pricing on well known/unknown cigars, thats when I sh*t in my pants. I'll usually just look at all the "nice" accessories say,"Hi" to the associates and leave. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Get ready for real bitchin! Taxes aren't going DOWN in any state anytime soon. And within one year SCHIP will be back. Fuel costs are up over 30% from just a year ago, and in Nicaragua, Noriega has instituted 15% mandatory wage increases every year for that countries workers. So all tobacco and cigars from that country will be going up.

El Rey de los Habanos, Illusione and others have already put price increases in place for the new year, and the DPG stuff sports some of the single biggest price jumps I have seen since being a retailer.

If you are a person whole loves to price shop, it's only going to get worse. Gougers are a_ _ holes and there's no excuse for that. But you can look for MSRP's (plus state taxes) to continue to rise.
