Home video surveilance system

As many of you know, my youngest is mentally retarded (ok, developmentally disabled for you PC freaks) - unless she knows nobody is watching! I want to install video to keep track so my wife and I aren't always running behind her. Here is what I'm settling on in the 600 buck range (can be had for ~400). Any experiences with home video to share?

No, I have not made a choice yet. The only thing that I know is I want both remote access via LAN, and a hard drive for storage. Check Costco.com, they had several that were on sale the last time I looked.

I didn't actually go and look, but this one on Amazon does everything I want. The only kicker is that the built in IR illumination is only good for about 50 feet. My daughter has free run of the house and back yard. I need to be able to figure out where she is from my home office. I don't need high res and really don't need the IR features. However, it would be nice to be able to ID the bastage that is sure to break into my truck sooner or later. One review that I read dealt with exactly that. The guy added motion activate supplementary IR illumination - problem solved. This one also has the DVR with 150 DAYS of capacity. It also does web access, so I don't need an extra flat panel.

I'm open to ideas, but this one is a no-go. Interesting device, though.
