How do I upload my new avatar?

I'm working on this.

It took me a long time, a lot of cropping, and even banging my head on the wall before I got mine to fit. Basically, you have to get it 100 KB or less. That is why some avatars, including mine, have only fair resolution at best.
 
My GIF was gone when I logged in today. Been awhile. I just uploaded ithe same GIF I had previously and it loaded.

It works in the profile but not on the threads as far as I can tell. Hmmm
