This is going into my book of bad ideas. Sometimes what makes sense in my head just doesn't in reality, but I need to bounce it off someone before I realize it.

I've been kicking this idea around a day or two. With some of the recent incidents of my fellow newbs getting banned, I was thinking if the general community would think it useful to have a compilation of specific events that got people banned. Along with each case include the specific reason and when the person could have possibly salvaged their reputation and stay here. Yes the rules are quite clear to me, but an extra example couldn't hurt. I think this might be useful to help well intentioned newbs stay out of trouble. I also complete expect those that don't care about the rules anyway won't read it and it could be a waste of time to put it together. Therefore, (was going to say So,) I put this out for discussion and opinion of more established BOTL's.

It's typically how these guys react to being corrected that gets them banned, a la the guy yesterday or folks like PadronMan. I'd say if one really needs examples of "how not to be a flaming a-hole troll", they probably aren't mature enough to belong to a community like this anyways.

Now, if you wanted to put a thread like that together for entertainment purposes, well that's another thing...

Don't wear dirty clothes and smell like a sewer and then insult a member when he mentions it subtly to help you.

Most importantly, read the posts (responding to your posts) with a positive outlook and be humble. A small "hey guys, I apologize if I was out of line", will get you
a lot of "pats on the back", rather than, a kick in the butt.

Dave has a link in his sig line to Wilkey's compilation of asshats and other assorted missteps. It is a fascinating read and I learned a lot from reading that before I joined.

I don't need to re-live the asshat brigade twice.

x2 and, likewise, as grateful and the other fellas have stated - the rules are quite clear and there is a bevy of posts and information to be gleaned simply by reading. This generally is an element of basic character. If one has to ask, "gee fellas, how do I NOT get banned?" then, chances are, they ain't ever gonna get it. If a noob steps in it without realizing it, if he/she has any character, they will pony up and make things square promptly - without having to resort to some compendium of prior bannings.

Thanks for the input guys. I was torn between whether it would be helpful or not and I think you guys have cleared any doubts I had, which is why I raised the question. I too read Wilkey's compilation and it was entertaining and informative.

editted because I forgot to spell check.

And, this is all the product of plain common sense. You can't quantify that.

....list of rules? How about this - treat others as you'd like to be treated, read more and post less, pay attention to the rules posted in the "Buy/Sell/Trade & Group Purchases" forum, and use common sense.

Sweet Jebuz folks, it's not that difficult. I'm here as living proof..... :p

Regards - B.B.S.

The rules are clearly stated. If I need to break them down further and provide examples of grounds for banning, I don't think that particular member should be a part of CP. Those who read the rules, use COMMON-SENSE, and show respect will have no problem at all. No need to further elaborate.

Very well put Tom.

I agree Todd!

I just needed to find a thread to make my 12,000th post.

To answer your question Smokin', Wilkey's Hall of Fame list is the best resource I can think of, MAN there is some funny shitz there, LMAO!

Some of my personal favorites are:

Excalibur/Mighty Whitey
SFG75 (who has reinvented himself as "maduro_scotty" on other asshat boards  )
TonyDogs
GreatKingRat

and I'm just gettin' warmed up!

The bottom line is posters CANNOT lose their temper while posting here or anywhere else for that matter.

A wise man once told me that when you post, you should have a smile on your face. If you're red-faced and pi$$ed off, then you damn well better STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD until you cool off, or you're gonna get BAN!

Oh, and DO NOT cop an attitude with the owner of the board..... :whistling:

right Todd? :D
