How to Make CP Better

I understand where he is coming from even though I disagree with the wording. He has as much ownership of CP as any other contributing member, so regardless of weather you or I like his wording, what he says is still valid. IMO, this thread is better of read and not replied to. Just my 2 cents.

I do think Tom has a point, though...

You've got a situation like this...

Topic starts:

Has anyone ever smoked XYZ cigar. What do you think?

And then the answers follow...

I've only smoked one so I can't tell you much. I'll smoke another next week and I'll let you know.

I've not tried that brand, but others tell me they are good. I've got one in my humi and I'll prolly spark it in a few weeks. ;)

How would you cut that cigar? Would you use a "V" cut on it, or maybe a punch? I wonder how that would change the flavor?

Good question!! Any FOGS wanna give us an answer??

I saw one of those in my local shop - does anyone want me to pick one up for them?

Yeah. I've had experience with those smokes. They're not my favorite

Just smoke it and tell us what you think!! :p

I recently read a review on those. They say that they are a great medium smoke, with an earthy, leather and coffee taste to them. I think they were rated 6."

Those cigars are bland, mild and tastless. I've had one and I'll never smoke it again!

Hey <insert member title here>, didn't you have one of those at the last <insert location here> herf? I seem to remember you smoking one of those."

...and it goes on and on.... And that's talking about cigars...

Not to be the little upstart here...but I'm a little unclear on whether or not you are saying the above conversation is full of "post-whorish" talk that should be kept to a minimum...?

I'm fairly certain that the point was that many people responded and not a single person answered the question. It's like people talking in a crowd just to hear their own voice. If I were to ask about XYZ cigar, then I am looking for feedback from experience. Two pages of drivvle doesn't help me at all and makes it difficult to find the one response that may answer my question.

His point is, in this example, if all you can say is that you have nothing to add, then add nothing. If you want to say you have one you can smoke and review - then wait until you smoke and review it, then post a link ot the review.

What Sean, George, and Treamayne said.

I will try to restate without a feeble attempt at humor. I only use humor because I mean no harm to anyone. I picked 1.9 because that is what I have posted. Don't you find it funny when others use themselves as the standard and judge everyone else by it? By all means post away 30 times each day if you you think you have something worth reading. But I am serious that it would be nice if just a few of the folks on Moki's list would get a hint. In my opinion, that's all. And that opinion is worth every penny you paid for it.

Listen, I understand that many of you know much more about cigars---and life for that matter---than me. I don't give advice on cigars much because I know what I like but don't have the experience and collection many of you have. I bow to that. I have learned more about cigars in the first four months in this forum than in the ten years I smoked 'em before that.

And that is part of the point. Sometimes the more that is written the less chance of reading something informative. George gives the perfect example. There is a difference between a review being posted, which you can agree with or disagree with, add a comment to or not, or just soak up, and a searchless, lazy question about has anybody tried...?

I am the guy that posted the cell phone dancer. I understand that I will be guilty of exactly what I am writing. That is why it was meant to be posted in fun. But if you are on Moki's list and been around less than a year or so well...

What I really know everything about is solving the America's problems. Like this.

May I make a suggestion?

I'd like to see less newb topics that make no sense and do nothing but pad your posts and make it look like your attempting to contribute to the board.

Maybe a 24 hour "read only" type deal and maybe only be able to post intros.

That's gone down alot... Wurm took my place. :sign:

IMO,

Less posts = less views = less clicks = less revenue to pay the bills around here. Rod, correct me if I'm wrong.

Just because somebody posts something doesn't mean you have to read it. Most of the thread subject descriptions in here are pretty accurate. If I click on a thread and spend twenty minutes reading "me too" and smiley face posts, who's fault is that, really? Mine. That rarely happens; most of the time I skim posts, scrolling past the short ones and reading the ones that are a paragraph or more in length. But when it does happen, it is because I chose to do it.

We are just a bunch of knuckleheads :D talking about cigars, I don't see that changing anytime soon. Yes, sometimes there are conflicts, but that comes with community, especially ones like ours where people invest of themselves and have high ownership. I'll take ownership, investment, and the occasional dust-up over the alternative, which is just another board with no brotherhood.

As I said, just my humble opinion.

Great post, Jim. This sums it up for me.

We're not building a rocket ship or trying to solve world peace by contributing to this BB. We all joined CP to discuss cigars and meet like-minded people who share that passion.

Post as much or as little as you want, it makes no difference to me personally. I will still read as much or as little as I want.

I don't mind seeing people post things here, sort of reminds me of hanging out w/ my buddies. Everyone is different and I don't think it would be the same w/ people ONLY posting pertinent to the topic.
