Humidification question

What was the average life span of the govee’s and how long have you had your current device?
The 2 I had probably lasted less than a year each. The ThermoPro is probably almost a year now? I’d have to look up the exact timeframe though. I mean they are all of the 20-30 dollar variety, so I’m not expecting much.

The govee devices I bought were $15 each. I've never been able to accurately adjust the system provided with my aristocrat and it’s over ten years old, so bought three Hygrometer Thermometers. To test their accuracy I put each one in its own Tupperware with a 65% boveda and they were all within 1% of 65%. Due to trust issues, I’ve always supplemented the aristocrat system with beads so I’d like to see if that’s actually necessary. Hopefully they last longer than one year but time will tell. Thx

Pretty much the same here. The RH on my Staebell controller and my hygrometers doesn't match. I'm currently running 2 SensorPush and a Govee in my tall cabinet. Salt tested them all, they work great and seem consistent. Got the cabinet running very well now. I've never had a Govee fail, but I did have a SensorPush that was DOA out of the box, quickly replaced by SensorPush.

I've got both, never had a failure, but I do replace the batteries every couple years or so. Can't imagine that makes a difference, but FWIW....

Weird I didn’t see this thread from 2 days ago but found it by searching on this exact topic. I just got the Friday the 13th spookies and randomly felt I should boost my bead redundancy (and had unexplainable terror all my cigars might silently die). What is the current best place/product for beads? The heartfelt ones I have in there now to backup the active system have got to be almost 20 years old now.

Did you get them, usps shows it was delivered. My wife’s idiot dog sent you his finest, all were 3 circle +…

Temp is staying right at 70, and 64% humidity, perfect. Will be going to the land of the beautiful (WalMart) today for a 120qt cooler, we just don’t have the room for a real humidor. Let me rephrase that, my wife says we don’t have room. 💩
I have been checking the mailbox every day, nothing!

Thanks to you bad influences, I’ve graduated to a 150 qt cooler, which is now full, and for my 60th (how in TF did that happen?!), my wife got me the Humidor Supreme Balthazar 1024 count https://www.cigarsinternational.com/p/humidor-supreme-balthazar-ii-humidor/2055948/
Definitely not big enough, but will be the humi i use to keep ready to smoke sticks, while the long term storage sticks will live in the coolidor. Much easier access than digging the the cooler. Probably in a year or two I’ll get a 5000 count tower.

Read through 5 pages of threads here, and as I’m cheap af and the Avallo or Aristocrat takes up more room in the humidor, I’m looking at 65% boveda packs scattered throughout, and 4 micro fans tied into a timer to come on every hour for 15 seconds to move air around, as well as a couple Govee hygros. Any advice / input would be welcomed.

Really want to find a plug and play controller for the fans, but have had no luck yet, seems like the smart plugs are limited in the ability to only run for small intervals? Anyone have experience with wiring these micro fans into a controller? I thought i saw a thread on it, but couldn’t find it.

Will use Boveda 84 packs to season for a few weeks before i put sticks in it.

Can't help you w the controller. I planned to use a reg outlet timer. I just decided to the let my fans run. The humidity in my poormans tower of power recovers stupid quick, I think because they run constantly. I'm a big fan of beads. I've used them for 20 years probably. My RH shield beads do run a cpl degrees hi. They are supposed to be 65 but stay at 67 mostly. I can live w that.

Been using this same black ice for over 10 years (pickup on CB cheap) now in this 48 qt and only need 1 to maintain humididty. Refill with water about twice a year.

I seasoned it with 84% Boveda packs for 10 days, put fans in it, calibrated the 2 Govee hygros, still staying around 74%. Guess the interior wood soaked up moisture, thinking I need to let sit until it gets down sone more, around 65, before putting in the Boveda 65% 320g packs, and stocking it?

Um this will sound like a dumb question but whats the ambient humidity around you right now in NC? You might be able to just let stuff sit out if its close then finish it with the packs. Unless your dealing with kiln dried wood or living in the desert or SoCal Id suspect you arent far off from 65 right now with the weather the east has been having.

The last empty boxes I bought for poormans trays I just spritzed with DI water wiped them down and plopped them in the wineador. The humidity never changed and after a couple days I loaded them up with singles. Either the spritz was enough or the beads took care of the rest or a combo of both.

You bring up a good point. People often don't consider what the ambient humidity is, and what effect it can have on trying to maintain a humidor. I've got an Ambient Weather station at home, consider:

....which shows we're running about 62% at the lowest, and close to 100% much of the day. Why is inside lower RH..?? AC and heat, without a humidifier in the HVAC system, will drop the internal humidity quite a bit.

Point being.....ambient conditions matter...!! I haven't had to use any desiccant in my cabinet, but TBH the RH sneaks up, over the course of the summer, depending on how much the AC runs. If your ambient RH is 80%+....maintaining 65% in your cabinet or humidor may require some extra steps.

ToneNY did a thread about this very subject, IIRC titled 'seasonal mood disorder' pertaining to cigar storage. Spot on.....
