So, I'm sitting outside Nordstrom's in Easton, Ohion on Saturday evening and who plops down in the chair next to me?? Eric F'in Clapton! I had one of my kid's go up to him and say hello because I was half in shock. Made an already great weekend getaway, even better.

So your son got to talk to Eric Clapton and get his autograph?

How exciting for you son :sign:

so, did you talk to him? that's pretty cool.

unless you didn't talk to him. then you're wuss. no offense

As you can probably already figure out, I'm a huge Clapton fan myself. I probably wouldn't have talked to him either.

ROTFLMAO!!!

....Well - did you??? :whistling:

I did not show him my ass. I am a much more distinguished gentleman around royalty, then I am around you boners. I did speak to him briefly. He was complaining about some new flip flops he had just bought and I offered him mine. LMAO! It was amazing to me that no one else recognized him. It was dusk though, so maybe no one was really paying attention.

Having worked in the recording industry for a number of years, I can tell you for sure that the one thing "stars" miss is being able to, oh, say have a cup of coffee and not get pummemeled by fans. Sure, it's part of the deal (being famous) and sure, the fans made them what they are today, yada, yada, but one comment with someone you all quite likely know really stuck with me; "...I can't even go to f-ing JC Penneys and buy a f-ing pair of shorts without drawing a crowd!!!..." I was going to ask him if he really still shopped the shorts department at JCP but that wasn't the point....

So, MattR, IMHO you showed a ton of class. I may have walked past when leaving, smiled and said something like "I really admire and appreciate your work. Thank you...." and left it at that. I've seen "names" do really kind and generous things when the fans act civil.

FWIW - B.B.S.

because eric doesnt want to talk to him. if he did he would have gotten up and sat down at matts table and started up a conversation. you're never gonna say/ask him anything he hasnt heard at least a hundred times. you did the right thing matt

I wouldn't have wanted to bother him. I love his music, I am not his friend. That's just me though.

I've met a lot of musicians, though Clapton is a bit of a mecca to me. He wasn't there as a musician, so I didn't treat him that way. I thought about asking for a picture of him with my kids (twin 6 year olds) and probably would have asked had there been no one else around. But, the last thing I wanted to do was draw attention to him. We chatted a quick second, he finished his "rest" and he left to find another pair of flip flops he liked better (or so he said that's what he was doing) and he said goodbye to us. If he had been eating or something like that, I would have never even acknowledged that I recognized him.

Who would have known that Matt is one of the little people like the rest of us. I would have thought that Eric would have wanted your autograph, Matt.

I guess he doesn't read this board

Reminds me of a funny joke I saw recently:

What do Eric Clapton and Coffee have in common?

They both suck without Cream!

Well, it's a funny joke, even if it's not necessarily true. He does allright as a stand alone musician too. And I guess coffee is pretty good without cream as well, so nevermind!

I like my coffee black, like my women...... in most cases I like my blues black, like my women. But, I give an exception to great blues guitarists like Slowhand! :p

If I have a desire to talk to someone briefly, I don't stop and think, "Does this person want to talk to me?" no, I don't. I wasn't saying one should go and sit with him and try to strike up a long coversation. but if I saw someone that I greatly admired out in public, I would at least say hello. Perhaps nothing more. I don't know if you're married or single or whatever. But, if you're out somewhere and there's a woman who is absolutely beautiful who'd you'd love to talk to, do you think to yourself, "If she wanted to talk to me she would come and sit down at my table and strike up a conversation." I think that's playing life a little too 'safe.' I think matt did the right thing as well, but I think it'd be silly to say nothing at all to someone you held very high that you ran into in public. that's all I was saying.
