I hope he can keep his head on straight...

I know a lot of people love Daly, but personally I'm tired of him. He has more pure talent than anybody on tour and has pissed it away. Granted, he is a likeable guy and one of the more generous people in sports, but I'm tired of all the attention being paid to a guy who can barely make the cut. All the other personal stuff aside, all it would take is a little self-determination and work and he could be a top 10 in the world player and he just refuses to do it. I have a hard time rooting for a guy who has no work ethic.

I don't really have any ill-will toward Daly. I hope he can get everything in his life worked out.

100% agree.

He has pissed it all away time and time again. Like you say with some hard work he could be in the top 10-20 in the world. He is unwilling
to put in the effort it takes.

He's resting on his talent alone, and these days, there many many guys with the same talent level or more!

I guess my biggest problem with Daly is that the media wants to make everybody believe that he is like all of us "average joe" golfers. Personally, I don't have a gambling problem, I'm not an alcoholic, and I haven't been married umpteen times. I don't want to be associated with him. There are so many good stories in golf and in sports about guys who bust their rear-ends to become successful. Why they continue to waste our time on a guy who is unwilling to put out any effort whatsoever is beyond me.

Give me guys like Vijay, Cal Ripken, Jr., or Kurt Warner who worked their butts of to get where they are at. Those are the kinda guys I want my kid looking up to. Not John Daly.

Yes lots of feel good stories. Casey Martin, Darrin Clark, and even Steve Stricker(come back player of the year)

About 15 or so years ago I experienced Daly first hand in one of his drunken, gambling stupors. He was at a Sam's Town casino in Tunica, playing about 7 $100 slot machines. They had the area roped off and he would go from one to the other, if he could stand up to make it, dropping 2 coins a pull. I have no idea how much he lost or won, but he did a fine job of showing his ass.

I have no respect for him. He was graced with soooo much talent and he is an utter bum.

Edit: I forgot about this . . . a couple years ago WREG in Memphis played a round of golf with him. He showed up drunk, in cut-off jean shorts . . . no shirt or shoes . . . smoking, cussing and just generally acting a fool for the round. Mind you, this was a planned, televised event. After edits, they showed about 2 minutes of it.

Wow!

He's has been such a waste for so long.

Mark, he gets a lot more publicity here because of the proximity to Memphis. We hear about everything good or bad that happens.

They've made a big deal of the fact that Houston Nutt (Ole Miss Head Coach) played one of the practice rounds with him this week. Nutt has such a good reputation that it took some by surprise.
