Well, I got rid of the damn thing. This setup seems to work great. After taking the board out, I found a small scratch on the back of the board that may have short circuited 2-4 wires. I believe that was the problem. I know it wasn't me because it wasn't even in an area where there was a raised screw set in the case. This was a refurb'd one asus sent me.
I do have another question. I have a Core 2 Duo 3ghz, and the temp under load gets up to 70 degrees Celsius. That is at the upper limit of what the processor is supposed to handle, but I don't know what the problem is. With the other motherboard, the temperature only got to about 60 or so.
Idle temps for cpu= 41 C
idle temp for mobo= 32 C
CPU under full load (prime95) = 70 C
by the way, I paid 55 dollars for a microATX Asus mobo, 22 dollars for the memory, and 23 dollars for the case..
All in all, a cheap upgrade to a working system.....for now.
