Ok, bottom line is that Carrie & I have narrowed it down to two TV's that fit in our price range. I was looking for size & picture-in-picture. Looks like I'll get one of those options. We're upgrading from a 27 inch. For the purposes of the poll, I'm ignoring brands. Both have a fantastic picture, sound, etc.
Choices are either a 36 inch OR a 32 inch with Picture-in-Picture.

Preferences?

Seeing as I'm the only vote for the 36" thought I'd explain my vote. I have a 32" pip and never use the feature. When I first got it I played with it a lot but as time went on I used it less and less. Then the remote broke and I refuse to pay $100.00 for a new remote just for the pip feature. Aftermarket remotes that I could find don't work the pip but only cost $25.00 or less. Tune in the main game you want to watch and then the next one so that the "last" button will flip you back and forth. :D

Dave,
Any expert will tell you the same in the video category (whether it's TV, or monitor) All other things being equal (i.e. picture quality, sound, etc) go for as big a set you can afford and fit in the home.

Picture in picture may be a nice little gimmick, but hey, if you don't already have one, buy an $80.00 VCR and tape the other show! Or have one running on the computer!

Just MHO about PiP

I'm with the other guys..bigger is better in this case. I am looking at new tv's myself for the new house. I have it narrowed down to two a 57" 16:9 Sony or the equal Hitachi. Will probably go with the Sony because I am a Sony whore. Everything I have in the Hi-Fi section is Sony. Plus the Universal programmable remote is already qued to work with the Sony tv.

Get the 36"!!!! I have 2 of them and size IS everything!!! I love mine, in fact, I want a bigger one but wifey said no!! :sign:

Go for the 36" :D PiP sounds great but over the long haul you'll never use it ??? Isn't always about size :D

Well, I'm disagreeing here to a point. The PIP RULES!!! Although this is only true in regards to sporting events...for any other programming it is virtually worthless. I just bought a 54 inch HDTV w/PIP...my opinion may differ from others just on the point that my PIP screen is alone 19 inches (BAM!!!!) I just can't say enough about it...for football...it RULES!!!

On the other hand...if you're not a complete insane sports nut...I too would just get the bigger TV.

As Hbooker would say "It's your choice..."

I am not an expert, but a home theater enthusiast and regular at AVS Forum (http://www.avsforum.com). I own a 53" HDTV and believe me, it seems big when you buy it, but it gets smaller the longer you own it. Depending on how far away you sit from the set, you will want the screen to fill up your field of vision for the best, most involved viewing experience.

NOTE: I am a big PVR fan (Personal Video Recorder). You will never watch commercials again. Power to the people!

I just realized :p you can have BOTH! Get the 36" TV and then buy an Ultimate TV DirecTV PVR/receiver. The Ultimate TV gives you PIP! WOW! You are really cooking now, bro!

At Circuit City they were recently running a special where the delivery was free on virtually all TVs. You can get the UltimateTV receiver for almost nothing now (no, it's not going under!).

SMokin' Tone, I'm with ya' bro!!! As Matt is, I seem to belong to SWA as well (Sony Whores Anon.) Hard to beat for us regular audiophiles, IMHO. Now if'n you wanna get serious along the lines of Klipsch or Bang and Oulfusen (sp?) I'm not in you're league!!! LMAO ;) :p

Welllll.... ummmmmmm - I sorta went against the grain and got the 32" with PiP.
By the time I left, the PiP vote was in the lead! Now I get back and find out the vast majority chose the 36". I gotta tell you though... I don't know how ANYONE could get tired of having Picture in Picture. That thing ROCKS!

Dave

What's important is that you like it...you're getting married to that tv in a month ya' know. LMAO
