Please allow me to endulge...I thought of you all this evening and simply wanted to share this:

So my lovely esposa Cubanita (cuban wife) is out tonight celebrating the birthday of one of her girlfriends who is moving away from Miami. I, thankfully, was excused from the festivities.

I was sitting on my back balcony overlooking downtown Miami and Brickell, from my penthouse on South Miami Beach, and it was pitch dark at about 6:45 p.m. (damn time change is still driving me crazy). I decide to place Godfather I in the dvd (it looks simply AMAZING on my new...yes, I have to boast a little, Pioneer 50" Plasma). I ventured towards one of my humidors where I grasped one of my just received Gurkha 1940 pre-embargo 100% pure Cuban tobacco cigars (double corona). I have been waiting and waiting to try one as, when I first received the two boxes, I had a major cold and painfully abstained from smoking. So tonight was the night.

It came with the traditional shaggy foot, and immediately I was reminded of mi abuelo in Las Villas, Cuba who used to smoke cigars just such as this. I carefully rolled it between my thumb and fingers and inhaled deeply. Then, time to light up. For this, I opted for cedar strips. Why? Who knows, but I did anyway. The smoke that has been carefully waiting for 63 years to emerge finally did so. It was spectacular.

Gentlemen, and, of course, ladies...this was one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. I simply cannot express that enough. It was truly unbelievably delicious. I stepped out on to my front balcony to gaze at what little I could see of the ocean in the dark night and slight overcast, and decided to ignore the Godfather for the time being in lieu of some Jose Cura cds (although it was a split-decision for Beny More).

Everything simply came together and all elements combined to form one perfect session with this outstanding cigar. I cannot wait to enjoy the others (two boxes of double corona and one box of robustos). I also picked up a box of the 1958 Pinar Serie B Rothschild, although I am a bit guarded as to how it will be given that it is only 50% cuban, with 50% Dominican. Anyway, we shall see.

Sorry to go on for so long...I simply wanted to share this moment with those that I know, or at least imagine, can appreciate it and share in my happiness.

I hope all of you are well and enjoyed the recent Halloween festivities. Take care friends.

I have spent a lil time in South Beach and gone to some meetings in the Federal Building in Downtown. The one nice thing of bieng in the Coast Guard in Florida is meetings in downtown Miami and getting my room in South Beach. Hell, the Coast Guard base is halfway between the two. Thanks for the review of the cigar. Sounds great. Let me know if you come to Key West. BTW, my wife is a Massage Therapist here in KW. So come on down and lets get to smoking great cigars.
There is a thread about putting together a HERF in Miami in February. Any chance yo could make it?

WOW, talk about a dream of dreams. What a night. I think I could have had a good time with a swisher sweets and just being with that group of people. Glad you appreciate what you have. ;)

Emodx -

HERF in Miami? Sounds great! Keep me posted on the details as it gets nearer. My wife and I both love to spend time in Key West. We have a house on Largo, and that's where our boat is docked so we tend to stay in that area - besides, it's nice being so close to home in case we need to hurry back for any reason. Last time I was in West was in the summer following a boating trip down to Bimini.

In any case, sounds like a great idea and looking forward to the possibility of sharing some great puros with others.

Hi MiamiCubano,

Click Here for the link to the Miami Herf

Congrats on the smoke & thanks for the review. Sounds like you had a great evening that would please anyone :D

Thanks for the link to the Miami HERF info.

If Habana Pequena is being thought of, a trip to Sosa's on Calle Ocho should definitely be considered. The fact that it is right next door to Versailles and katty-corner from La Carreta are added bonuses. It would be outstanding to enjoy a few of Sosa's finests while talking politics or sports con los viejos over a good colada (or cortadito).

Also, for those unfamiliar with the area. Lincoln Road on Miami Beach (a few blocks away from my penthouse) has some absolutely fantastic restaurants which feature outdoor/courtyard dining. There, cigars are definitely not a problem. Also, there's a pretty decent cigar bar that features great, mostly Colombian, salsa bands on the weekends. A good venue indeed.

Thanks again for the info. I should know whether or not I can make it as the dates get nearer and more solid. I'm an attorney and my trial schedule is often unpredictable, but it shouldn't be too problematic...I'm truly looking forward to it.
