first aid providers are asking people to provide a contact number under tagged ice, in case of emergency, spouse, home, s.o. good idea! in your cell phone under the name (ice) you put your contact number in case of an emergency. emergency workers will look for the name (ice) on your cell phone and call someone that cares about you!

In your cell phone, make a contact named I.C.E. in case of emergency.

put a phone number of who to call incase you are found not breathing or something. Personally, I don't think this will ever take off the ground.

Personally, I think it is a great idea.
An example of confusion for ER/Paramedics is what we currently have:
In our cell phone Mike put his mom in as "grandma" and my mom is "mom starr".
Who would be able to take the time to decipher what relative lives near you, let alone which one should be called in an emergency?
And who puts "titles" for relatives in their cell phone instead of personal names?!?
Also, if it was a situation that required that serious a decision to be made on my behalf, I don't want them calling a "not-too-with-it" relative looking for who has "Power of Attorney" over me. ;)

I know I won't be caught in a situation like that from now on! Thank's for the info! :D

We have been telling patients to do this.
The idea is ICE will be the person you would want contacted first.
If you have a living will this could be very important to you.
If you can't speak for yourself, You can have someone you trust
getting involved to look out for you.
It would suck to wake up in the hospital and find you had been a John/Jane Doe for a couple of weeks ;)
( it happens )

i'm sure that the younger guys could probably care less, but now that my body is letting me down a bit, it's important! i'm sure there are some hear that would be very intereted, you know who you are!

Thanks Sack actually my grandma saw something about this on television and my mom made me do it to appease her while we were in for a visit. But when I really thought about it I decided that it really was a good idea, I mean no one wants to think about being in that kind of situation but we all could be and if Emergency crews recognize I.C.E on my phone the better that will make a bad situation I guess Just my 2 cents.

Wouldn't it be easier for the cell phone manufacturers to hard code an "emergency contact" directory entry to be filled in when the phone is first used???

No it wouldn't be.

Concur - no hand phone here. Guess I just bite it in an emergency...

Way back when ..... people would keep ICE cards in their wallets, or in their car. I personally think it's just common sense people, something many people don't seem to have these days.
