I'd like your opinion please

The only other thing I can think of not mentioned already would be to chamfer or radius the top edges of the strips. My thought is that as you are trying to pick up or move the cigars around the foot might catch on the edge of the strip and damage it. relieving the edge would minimize the possibility of that happening.
I like that idea. I'll see if I can get a round over bit into the squares. I think the holes can be down sized to about 3/4" to even 1/2". Anything smaller and the wood may split from one dado to the next. As far as strength goes, this is pretty solid. That can be attributed to the grain going long ways in both directions unlike slotted trays where long grain is only one direction. I'll have to keep in touch with the person this is for and see how it does over time. Again, thank you all for your input. 2 heads are always better than one......especially when it comes to cigars. :D
