If I have to recharge my beads every 2 days...

My Rh was stable for the first few days. Then it started dropping to 63-62.

Whats a stable RH to recharge them? They are 65% beads!!!

My preferred re-charge method, if you have room, is to place an open container of distlled water in the humi and leave it there until the RH climbs above 65%...that tells you the beads are saturated.

Also, anytime you add more cigars the rH will go down, as they are going to absorb some of the moisture. I'm not sure where you live, but this time of the year, in colder areas, it is relatively dry inside becasue of furnaces, etc. You also may not have a good seal on your humidor/cooler. Oh and your hygrometer is not going to read 100% correct. I would give it a +/- of 2 or 3 %.

I live in MI, where it gets pretty dry in the winter too, and I have to recharge mine every week or two. I think it's just a matter of the humidity being SO low (10-20% is not unusual indoors). During the other seasons, I only have to refill once a month, if that.

Also, don't open it if you can avoid it, and when you add a box, make sure to moisten the wood a little, those boxes suck up moisture.

You also have to give the beads time to work. I have a remote sensor in one of my humis and when I open it for awhile, it drops to the low 60's (which isn't a bad thing IMO, but a topic for a different thread). When I close is up and not open it for a while, it eventually stabilizes. Like in a couple of days.

Opening up the humi every few hours to check on it doesn't help either. Even if the suspense will kill you.

Don't pour water directly on the beads... leave a sponge with distilled water in the Humi to recharge them.... ya might need to do that anyway during the winter months

See Ive read mixed reviews on pouring water directly over the beads. Ive heard from a few sources that if the beads crack, the remains are still made of the same material, and still maintain moisture the same way...so that it really doesnt matter.

I've been pouring water over them based on that...does this mean my beads are bad?

I dont really have room in my humi, its just a small 150 count glass top thats pretty much full. So when I recharge, I usually need it to be quick since I dont have room for a water container or sponge.

If the beads crack the effectiveness of the beads is unchanged, they will still do the job. The best way I have found to rehydrate the beads is to use a spray bottle and spray the beads, very little cracking and very effective in rehydrating.

Ive been meaning to use the spray bottle method...just havent made it to the store to buy one.
