Growing too fast.
A quote from the illusione site…
“The Teaching Machine 42 x 5 1/8
A classic connoisseurs’ cigar revealing hints of leather, cinnamon, and a long finish. A touch of sweetness is brought forward from the high caliber of Viso used in this blend.”
I received this gifted smoke from LouTam, thank you for the opportunity to try one of these Lou! Really appreciated!
This is a gorgeous cigar with a nice colorado wrapper. Very firm when squeezed, however looking at the foot the tobacco seems a bit loose. A triple cap covers the head, and I notice a crack in the wrapper leaf approximately an inch in length. This crack looks to have happened during the rolling of the cigar. I punch the head and pre-draw is very loose. This is the third illusione in a row I've had that has had a very loose draw to it. I toasted the foot and slowly put fire to it. I really tried to take a very slow, short draw at first, however I must have over drawn anyway as I was hit with a blast of powerful, spicy smoke. After the initial head rush, I slowly took another draw and the flavor really came through. Very smooth and a sweet, dirty earth taste. A twinge of leather with a little spice mingling in there. After a bit I did detect cinnamon. I remember when I was a kid, my mom would toast some light bread, slather it with butter, pour cinnamon sugar on it, and then toast it a bit more. This had a little bit of that cinnamon toast flavor (a darker version of it) followed by a fresh brewed cup of black coffee. Around the halfway point, the loose draw actually tightened up just a bit, however I still had to be careful when taking draws from this thing. A definite full-bodied smoke to me. It was slow going, however I smoked it until my fingers couldn’t take it any longer. Fairly hot at the end. I am hoping that the next illusione I fire up has a perfect draw. However, the way my luck has been going with smokes lately, it’ll be completely plugged!
Again, thank you Lou for the opportunity to try this smoke. It really was a very good cigar, thoroughly enjoyed it!
Just had to throw this in....took almost three hours this morning detailing it.
