If you're anti-gun, there's nothing for you to see here and I won't respond to your drivel.

With that said, it's been years and years since I shot competition (was damned good at non-combat competition). My favorites USED to be the Colt Trooper III for revolver and the Browning High Powered 9mil for auto...matter-o-fact, the Brownie was the ONLY automatic that I found I could shoot straight (make a 3" pattern at 50 YDS..not FT). Could not make a Colt .45 Gold Cup shoot straight or a Commander but my understanding is that both of these are very finicky about the loads you're using.

All of this was pre-Glock, 10mil, and other new stuff.

I need some input from any serious handgun shooters.

I've got hands that palm a basketball if that helps...although grips are customizable.

Now that I think about it, if someone has a Brownie HP9 that they want to cut loose of for a deal, I would be more than happy to talk. :)
 
I have a Colt and a Sig P228 and I'd have to say the Sig is a much more natural shooter. The P228 in 9 mil or the P229 in S&W 40 are both great pistols and you'd do well to give them a try if you can get the chance.
 
Sigs are some of the finest autos made. I also like Para Ordnance. You may want to look into .38 Super as it is heavily used in competition.
 
I own Smith and Wessons, Glocks, Sigs, and Kimbers. I carry Glocks, a Glock 21 primary carry and a Glock 30 as a backup. They are fine weapons for duty use.

If I were to shoot competition I would shoot the Kimber. I own the Pro Tactictial II. Its the finest shooting out of the box single action I have ever shot. They are a bit pricey but in handguns you get what you pay for.
 
I carried the Sig P229 in the .40 for the last seven years I was in law enforcement and loved it. I have large hands also and the P229 was a perfect fit. I found the 9's to be too small for me, even with customized grips. Also when I fired the 9 I felt like I was shooting a pellet pistol, no recoil. The P229 does not have a kick like a 357, but you knew you were shooting a auto.

Great for competition shooting. :thumbs:

I can't recommend what to use, but I can recommend what not to use. I have a .357 Taurus seven-shot cylinder revolver. It jams for some reason. I need to choose ammo carefully because it does better with some rounds than others. ???
 
I have to agree with CigarSarge on this one. The Kimber would probably be the best for competition shootin'! In fact, for the money ya give for 'em, I believe they come with someone to shoot it for ya! LMAO!! A bit pricey but ya get what ya pay for. ;)

All the others are good guns just not the pinpoint accuracy you're lookin' for! But with hands that big, get the new Smith 500!! :0 Something telss me 50 yards ain't jack for it!! :thumbs:

PS: The gun will only do so much though. I just witnessed a rural county deputy shoot a Kimber with the accurancy of throwin' a rock! ??? Worst damn shootin' I've ever seen. The safest palce was right in front of him. :angry:
 
I don't know crap about competition shooting. But, like Ken I also carry Glock on duty....I have the 21 (.45) for my primary and I carry the 28 (.380) for my back up. Like Sheriff Buck says about Cohiba.......

As a side note, I've looked up both the Sig models and the Glocks..damned but they all look alike. I can't EVEN believe so many are sold for so much... and don't have adjustable sights.

I have a Browning Hi Power that was modified for improved action. I had a local gunsmith polish the ramp with diamond dust for smooth feeding without ever jamming. It has Pachmyer grips, adjustable sights and red forward sight. I love it for target shooting. I have small hands and this fits like it belongs there.

As far as combat shooting I had a M79 grenade launcher in the Army. Made an impression on all those nearby.
