I'm glad, I'm glad, I'm glad!
About a year and a half ago, I succumbed and bought a Dupont X-tend lighter. Well, it died within six months. Put me off expensive lighters... permanently. Yesterday, I was looking through my graveyard of butane lighters, when I spied the X-tend, picked it up, and gave it a push. Fuggin' thing lit and continues to light. Flippin' gremlins.

Doc.

I bought a Blazer and quit looking. Dumb thing works flawlessly, every time.

Every high zoot fancy name brand lighter I've ever had quit after six months though I can't say I've ever had a DuPont.

I do have wood matches as a back up, just in case.... :p

There's a little latch or something in the X-tend mechenism that may get stuck some times. Not often on mine, but once it happened.

I was also told to keep the doors clean with a little swab of alcohol and then a little oil swab(touch of 5 in 1).

It's a very efficient lighter and one I like a lot.

I'm glad yours came around.

There are two dead Blazers in my grave yard. Both lasted less than a year. One I had repaired under warranty. It died a couple of months latter. I probably use my lighters harder than most folks but fer Christ's sakes, I got a zippo that's 35 yrs old and still works as well as the day I bought it.

My X-Tend has been flawless so far but agree that the action gets stuck sometimes. I think it has some sort of bearing that slides and deactivates the button if the lighter is upside down. When the lighter is turned right side up, the bearing sometimes gets stuck. You can hear it sliding in there.

Great news with the DuPont...after you posted this I just checked an old one I have and it still doesn't work! POS...

PS: Of course my newest Colibri sh*t the bed 2 weeks after they declare bankruptcy.....

Doc,
I hope this doesn't mean you will stop recommending flint and steel as a preferred lighting method to all of the newbs. :D

Xikar - Lifetime Warranty

I had an old style Element that looks like the one below only in black. It gave me grief all the time. Took it to my B&M (authorized dealer) and they replaced it on the spot with this one...

Even has a built in punch mounted on the bottom. Xikar Lighters

Been happy ever since.

I've also got a Vector Vulcan Triple Torch that I have had very good luck with.

Check and see if the store you bought it from will stand behind it. My semi-local (2 hours away) B&M just sent out an email that they were putting all Colibri lighters on sale, and would cover any warranty issues themselves for a period of time.

But I agree on the expensive lighters. I just paid a whopping $9.99 for a torch lighter while on vacation last week at a Walgreen's and it works great!

For some reason, I envisioned Doc jumping up and down, prancing about his living room, dancing and singing, "I'm glad I'm glad I'm glad!!!" when he found his Xtend worked.

But then I remembered what a badass he was, and dashed all such thoughts away. It's still funny to think about.

I've got an $80 Colibri and a $20 Colibri. The $80 unit is a POS, while the $20 one works every time. Go figure.
