Usually I cut the closed end with a v cut or punch, they have become more my favorites than the straight cut lately.

It all depends on the cigar but I typicalyl liek to punch instead of the cutters. however i just bought a xikar cigar multi-tool with cigar scissors and cant wait to see how it does.
