Hello brothers, I have been a dedicated beer drinker for most of legal life. I go through phases were I get into to wine heavily and have learned what I enjoy most( merlot and chainti's). But recently I have had an itch to try some cognac, not knowing anything at all about this bev. I need some help.

I trying to gain some info on possibly what to start out with, since I don't have a palet for cognac yet I don't want to waste expensive cognac on inexperience.

Second, silly as it may sound, how to drink some cognac. In detail, is it a sipping drink, cold or room temp.
Just really any advice that could be given to the young buck would be appreciated.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

With anything like this where you don't want to waste something expensive if you don't like it, head to the liquor store, and grab a couple airplane bottles. Take them home, and try them out. Not all on the same night, because by the time you get to the end, there will be no difference between something good and a glass of water.

As far as how to drink - in a snifter, at room temp or warmer. Personally, I wouldn't drink my cognac cold. My cognac of choice is Hennessy Priveledge, which is a VSOP.

Thanx, not a bad idea on the airplane bottles. I will try a few this weekend and see what happens. I will post the results.

Happy Holidays.

Yeah tell us what you tried and thought of them, maybe go from there.

I second the Hennessy priveledge or the XO if its in reasonable budget.
Believe it or not Davidoff is also damn good (made by Hennessy)
