Hellbent for Glory-land
I'm sure we've all at some point made the mistake of drinking sloe gin. That sweet, syrupy $8 a bottle crap next to the blue razz-ma-tazz. Well, there is an alternative. Plymouth Gin has been importing a sloe gin that's actually made with Plymouth gin (very tasty), sloes, and sugar. It's hard to find, but I spotted a bottle of it at my local for $35.
I tasted some in a rocks glass last night. This is quality stuff. Garnet red color. Mildly sweet with a berry-like taste, but not cloying; it was well balanced by the sloes' acidity. There is a definite overtone of Plymouth gin throughout.
Don't shy away from this beverage. You will not be disappointed.
Now if I could only find Plymouth Navy Strength gin...
